Personal Narrative: The Six-Step Rational Decision-Making Model

I chose a business issue within my own work experience. Aircraft paint and primer contain various chemicals and materials that help protect the structure from corrosion and other high altitude and rigorous temperature exposer. But when humans are exposed to these chemicals they can become deadly. The primer used for a C-17 contains a carcinogen known as Chromium-Six. Local laws always take priority over military policy. Different agencies, including Bay Area Air, are always interested in our toxic waist and hazardous materials. Unlike many other bases, Travis Air Force Base does not have a “paint barn,” basically a large hanger for the sanding, painting, and priming of aircraft. The Bio Environmental team at Travis has been harping our flight …show more content…
But I did not arrive at this decision instantly; I utilized the six-step rational decision making model from chapter five of the Judge and Robbins text. According to Judge and Robbins the first step is defining the problem; I did that when I realized we were not taking advantage of opportunities to paint aircraft. The second step is to define the decision criteria; and in this situation it was we can continue to wait months even years, or expedite the process somehow. The third step is to allocate weights to the criteria; the weight was I need this done. Fourth was to develop an alternative; my solution to paint a plane in fine condition is the solution I developed because the problem was we can never obtain a aircraft that needs paint so if we have possession of a healthy plane lets paint it anyway. The fifth step is to evaluate the alternatives; I have there will be some discomfort for the airmen and potential safety hazards; but I have found solutions to help prevent permeant structure damage and others methods to keep this safe. My final step is to select the best alternative, and in this case I feel painting this aircraft is the best alternative to accomplish our goals (Robbins & Judge, 148). I also feel this was a rational decision because I made consistent, valued maximizing choices, but we will have some constraints for example the …show more content…
“Specific goals produce a higher level of output than does the generalized goal of ‘do your best.’ For instance, when a trucker commits to making 12 round trip hauls between Toronto and Buffalo, New York, each week the intention gives him a specific object to try to attain” (Robbins & Judge, 185). I agree to this line of thought; and I intend to use it with this paint scenario. As I previously stated, I am attempting to get my flight on board with the order. After learning of the goal-setting theory I want to turn our housekeeping plan into a goal. The nature of my employees is a competitive nature, they crush jobs. I know I still have at least four surveys from Bio that we need to accomplish, if I can turn the completion of each survey into an accomplishment I can make completing this task before the New Year a realistic goal for my flight. The goal will motivate them and we can do

Question #3 Two acts passed by congress, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) were made to control the creation, distribution, and disposal of hazardous waste from cradle to grave. They hold people who have mishandled toxic substances accountable for the damage they have done there is a spill or leakage, both past and present. RCRA seeks to prevent spills before they happen by imposing strict regulations on the handling of hazardous wastes. CERCLA (or the Superfund) main goal is to clean up hazardous sites after a spill has occurred, and generate the money to do so.…

I refrain from making hasty decisions, a trait that’s made it easier to manage time and keep my life organized. It’s not that I don’t enjoy some spontaneity, just that I’ve had experience with faulty planning. I like to consider as many details and possible outcomes of a situation before making a decision; in fact, I believe it’s my best characteristic. Thinking things through allows me to make sound, satisfying choices in both my academic and social life. It is a practice that has saved me from careless mistakes on math tests and kept my activities.…

Situations are not always as they appear. While a situation, prima facie, may seem ethical, taking a deeper look, one may uncover nuances that lead to seeing the situation as unethical. In this essay, I analyze the Lead-Based Paint Abatement Repair and Maintenance Study (1992) conducted by the Kennedy Krieger Institute, in order to provide an ethical analysis of the study. In doing so, I argue that the ethics of the study shifts depending upon which set of non-moral facts an individual chooses to focus on. My stance, however, is that the study was unethical.…

The decision by the executives of the Ford Motor Company to continue marketing the Ford Pinto is an unfortunate example of prioritizing cost savings over safety. The flaw in the design of the fuel tank was not a mere inconvenience for drivers, but a major safety hazard with devastating consequences. Measuring dollars against human life is an act that conflicts with both ethical norms and legal standards. A company has equally ethical and legal obligation to make certain dangerous products are no longer sold to consumers and that the units already in use are either suitably repaired or disposed of properly (Xia Liu, Liu, & Lou, 2016). In that regard, I would not have proceeded with marketing the Ford Pinto and would have initiated a recall immediately.…

Making Ethical Decisions For me, ethical decisions take careful consideration and a great deal of critical thinking. I try to think of multiple outcomes that my ultimate decision may cause, as well as my confidence in that decision. If I don’t feel completely comfortable with a decision that I’ve made, then it’s an indication I need to analyze the situation and possibly more before coming to a final conclusion. When this option isn’t available, due to time constraints or other hindrances, I put the hope that I have made the right decision and await the consequences in order to verify that hope.…
