Personal Narrative: The Secret Life Of Bees

This semester in English II pretty good. We learned about a lot of topics. However, the three that stuck out the most to me were the debate, the Hero’s Journey, and we read a book over the summer titled “The Secret Life of Bees” which taught me quite a bit about bees. So, those are the three things that will be covered. First and foremost, the the Debate. The Debate was the most fun/educational one of the three. The Debate taught us how to have a civilized argument. It taught us how to analyze the material so we can make a proper argument back and not sound stupid. In other words, it gave us a better understanding of the well known phrase “think before you speak”. Now, how would I use this in real life? Well, people get into arguments all

Dear. Mrs. Kreider, I am so excited to be in your class this year! I have always loved to read and analyze literature, and I know this year will be no different. I have taken Pre AP or AP English every year it has been available to me, and I decided to take AP Lit to continue the same high level of English discussion and analysis I have enjoyed each year of high school. Along with expecting to delve deep into the discussion of various books, plays, and poems, I also expect that this year, in AP English 12, we will discuss the differences between last years AP Language exam and this year's AP Literature exam and get plenty of practice with both AP multiple choice and the three free response question styles.…

I’m most proud of my three years in debate for three reasons: I became a better public speaker, it allowed me to expand my diction, and it taught me how to formulate better essays and speeches. Public speaking is the greatest skill that one can possess; it can be the difference between being respected or viewed as a coward. In order to be a great public speaker one must be able to utilize powerful language, so that he/she can persuade others to follow him/her. Finally, the last but not least important skill that I mastered was that I was able to formulate essays and speeches more effectively, and by possessing this skill I will be able to succeed in writing reports for both school and later in…

Even though you’ll find tons of awkward zit faced nerds inside them, comic book stores are some of the best places on earth because there are hundreds of adventures that take place in just a few pages for 3.99 or less. Saturday afternoon my parents were in a fight over where we’d go for my brother Josh’s birthday and after hours of arguing they agreed that we’d go to “Fat Nats Eggs”, meanwhile my brother’s birthday was drawing nearer and I was growing more unenthusiastic for going because I don’t like trying new and different things most of the time. This year round it’s a breakfast restaurant so I decided i’d give it a try.…

For Reading and Comprehension I chose when my class read the Scarlet Ibis in September. The assignment was to read a short story about two brothers but one of them named Doodle was disabled, and the older brother was helping the little brother to learn how to walk since he couldn't due to his disability but at the end the little brother Doodle had passed away. We read this story to see how it relates to the unit we were learning about which was love. My class and I read the short story and annotate what we have read. Teaching controversial issues in the classroom through discussion is the most beneficial method for students to learn about these matters because it teaches them how to be open-minded, think critically about their own beliefs, and forces them to master their public speaking and interpersonal skills. The benefits of using discussions in classrooms to teach contentious topics are endless but the three previously mentioned have proven to be the most valuable by students, teachers, and parents everywhere. Class discussions force students to listen, embrace, and be respectful of opinions and beliefs that are divergent to their own. As mentioned by David Bridges (1979), an author who has formerly analyzed the notion of discussion, the sharing of…
