Personal Narrative: The Second-Mile Service

Decent Essays
Second-mile service is the path that I walk and is a famous motto. Voluntary service is limited these days because many people are preoccupied with the distractions of the world like technology. This means that volunteer workers are hard to find. However, I do not fit in the technological era, but I am still in the service to help people era. I believe that serving people is very important because other people needs my service more than wasting my time playing video games or going to a party. My teacher once told me that I should serve others because not for self-righteous, but serving other is the right thing to do and while I serve, I should truly treat them with love. This idea continued to enforce on me when I read a parable from the bible, The “Second mile” and the “Good Samaritan”. These two stories have one common goal, to serve anyone unconditionally with kindness and full of generosity and hope. …show more content…
I just utilize every hour in my free time to provide unconditional servitude to my peers, school, and the community. I really enjoy helping out at my school’s graduation because I get to see my upperclassman friends graduate and to give many of the parents, a memorable day. Similarly, I take in a great delight when I get to be a tour guide for the freshman at the orientation to reveal how great is Belchertown High School and encourage to get involve and don’t be shy to serve our school and the community. I really believe teaching the younger kids to serve and go beyond is important because they don’t understand the importance of serving usually. In this case, I decided to share my experience of selfless service to the public to them and encourage the freshman to serve and give back to the

In today’s society, people are swept up in the wrath of being too prideful, or become greedy. These deadly sins deaden our religious life, causing us to distance ourselves from God’s path. Everyone must dig deep into their spiritual lives, and lend a helping hand to those who need it the most. Whether it’s simply having a conversation with a homeless person, donating money, or volunteering at a daycare for the destitute children, these charitable acts can make a huge difference in someone’s life. My service learning experience was an eye opener for me, and it made me realize how privileged and blessed I truly am.…

Service to others has played a big part of my high school career. I am an instructor for a middle school indoor winterline group and I am specifically in charge of the colorguard members and their work. When I am with the group, I help instruct and show these young students the correct way to do dance, colorguard, and performance. By teaching them, it has lead me to develop my own skills, like communication, leadership, and my own dance and colorguard skills. Also, another reason service is important in my life is because of the relationships I gain.…

Every Life Matters I really only started understanding the meaning of abortion once one of my mom’s friends had one. Before that I had very little knowledge about abortion. My parents have always taught me to stand by what I believe and that others may have different beliefs. They always told me that I would meet people that would disagree with me and what I believe not only when it came to these kind of topics but many other things as well. Being told that, they told me to always respect people’s beliefs and their points of view because everyone has the right to stand by what they believe, just like I do.…

I exemplify service to my town and others by being an avid bullying advocate. I am an advocate of Sarah Kathryn’s bullying campaign. It is our goal to begin the process of stricter bullying laws in our state and country. Following the next school year, we are planning a “Relay for Life” for Sarah Kathryn to raise awareness of bullying. I believe my involvement includes the act of service for our town and National Honor Society because it contributes to bullied students and parents.…

Ever since I came to Xaverian in 2013, I have looked forward to being able participate in Christian Senior Service. The fact that Xaverian gives students the opportunity to give back to their community last quarter of their Senior year (and high school career) is extremely invaluable. I have always enjoyed doing service. It is something that I know helps the people I am serving, but also makes me feel good inside. Helping those around me is a desire that comes natural to me.…

When I was very little, walking up the trail with a pack on my back and the dog at my side, I would reach out and pull leaves from the bushes and trees. I would tear off corners, smooth the edges, and they would be turned into spaceships, flying across a lush alien world. Sometimes the trail, worn down into the ground over time by paws and hooves, would climb its way up onto the crests of ridges and meander across the moist, mossy fringes of muskegs. The rough, black and gnarled spruce branches that grew there were pirate spacecraft, pursued by the sleek birch branches from beyond the muskeg's soggy borders. As imaginary lasers and rockets exploded against the ships' hulls, I would rip off little pieces of bark and let them fall to the forest floor.…

As a junior in high school I created my own pet service business, Pennies For Puppies, in which I provide services such as dog walking, pet sitting while owners are on vacation, and letting dogs out or entertaining them while owners are at work; I donated all the money I earned to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley animal shelter, the only no-kill animal shelter in my area, after falling in love with the animals there. I originally created the business to fulfill the requirements of a senior service project for my high school, but it became much more to me than just another school assignment. I have had a passion for animals as long as I can remember, so when I was looking for another activity to occupy my time the answer seemed indisputable.…

Everyday, thousands of high school students immerse themselves in their community and create satisfaction in helping others in need. Community service is a critical aspect of teen development.
