Personal Narrative: The Second Day Of The Regional Beta Club Convention

Improved Essays
The day was March 6, 2015: the second day of the Regional Beta Club Convention. Anticipation had my stomach in knots as I sat in the lobby, fiddling with my thesaurus, waiting for the time when we would be called into the conference room. For weeks I had looked forward to participating in the writing competition. I had spent a week imagining the setting of the room, my competitors, what the topic may be. I wanted to feel the glory of coming in first place, not only for my club and for my school, but for myself. Soon enough the doors opened, and the conference room filled with students from various chapters, schools, and backgrounds. Most carried a thesaurus with them as did I; others even went as far as to bring thick dictionaries with them. After signing in, I ended up being seated by an excited competitor. We exchanged tight smiles, but I’m sure in the back of our minds, we knew that we were opponents competing for the same first place victory. …show more content…

First of all, I was already impressed by the way he read the story; his voice so clear that it feels like to listen him for hours and hours. And the most amazing thing about Kevin Wilson was his response to the question; how he explained the answer asked by the students. He said that he wrote a story on the worst case scenario; for one of the character’s girlfriend who was apart from him.…

Seated on the plane to Beijing, I was thinking all the way on what I did through the past year. My mind went back to the time when my friends and I worked together for Chinese orphans by creating a club. With 100 dollars from donation, I asked several classmates to help me set up a club called ‘Bring Me Hope Club’ to cooperate with a global NGO: Bring Me Hope, to raise money for Chinese orphans and build long-term personal one-to-one relationships with them.…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

If you had asked any of my peers for a description of who I am, they would have said that I was someone who was shy, and possibly even a bit awkward. This was a personality trait that I had been struggling with throughout the majority of my life. I had grown up as an only child, incessantly feeling out of place among my peers. It wasn’t until the middle of my freshman year of high school that I gained the self-confidence I had only dreamed about.…

To become a member, a specific GPA is required and maintained, which is more motivation to keep up academic achievement. Additionally, tutoring is a major part of our society, so having a good understanding of the subject you are tutoring in makes sure that you maintain the level of academic achievement the honor society calls for. Before I knew it, I was having my last performance. The awards were going to be announced, at the end of the concert and I thought that one of the other girls were going to receive the award. This was my perception because I thought that one of the other seniors had deserved more than I had. I thought that there had to have been another member of the color guard who had worked their butts of more than I did and deserved to be recognized for it. As I was contemplating on who would deserve the award, my attention was drawn to the performance area.…

The motto of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated is “Friendship is Essential to the Soul”. For as long as I can recollect, my mother has always stressed to me the importance of uplifting others and immersing people in love and companionship; she also taught me how pivotal it is for my well being to also receive it in return. Therefore, this motto to me is more than just a motto, but it is indeed a lifestyle. Throughout my life I have faced strenuous predicaments, but in every situation the solution to my problem was never money nor any other tangible item, but it was the people in my life that were the remedy to all misfortune I had ever stumbled upon. Stage fright has always been a part of my life, but in my junior year of high school, I decided to face my fear and join the Speech and Debate team. My instructor called us together within the first two weeks of school and informed us that our first competition was in three weeks. There are many tournaments within one Speech and Debate competition, which helps to expand the topics of each speech and performance. Most topics are self chosen, rather than assigned, and the competitors have the option of competing as a duo of two partners. Since it was my first time ever competing on a Speech and Debate team, I decided to enter the competition with my friend and compete in the duo section.…
