Personal Narrative: The Scan

Improved Essays
When the pregnant population exceeded a very high number, the scan was authorized. The Nano utilized for one lady was not ever acceptable, and yet, I stared at an override giving access for just that. One patient tested with the Nano. And the weirder thing, looking over the override, it was written in code. I merely deciphered it without even realizing, my gene giving me the ability. Now why would a higher-up need a Nano and then conceal the scan from rest of the medical community? I took out the possibility of a poisoned gene pool scenario. The Mother Country never would have taken the energy needed to run the scan for a bastard child with unwanted genes. Those babies were terminated along with the mother. Maybe a higher up? “You talked to Jenna.” His eyes dropped to the floor. It was strange to view Fredrick all shameful and insecure. His hands combed through his hair.
“It’s hard. The matching is even hard for me and I at least ended up with my soul mate, but Jenna really feels awful about last night,” I said, hoping his mood would change.
“It’s not her,” he broke in. He gave a big sigh and grabbed his newly cut short hair into his fists. “Last night was the first time I was with a woman on Unite…” I almost laughed but Fredrick’s face showed anxiety and depression. “…Jenna was the first since Ella onboard.”
“Oh…” That dilemma never crossed my mind when talking with Jenna.
“I love Ella. My actions in Wickerton didn’t show it, but I’m an idiot. I thought trying to forget would somehow…I don’t know… make me forget her.” He laughed a little. “When I was with Jenna. If I closed my eyes, it was like I was with her. Ella. Everything around me felt so similar. It’s not Jenna, Evie. It’s Ella. I can’t let her go.”
“Tell Jenna this. She will understand.” Fredrick nodded at my

I figured Mother Country would be watching our schedules, and I was concerned having him come down here would look too suspicious.”
“Hence the call to fix the broken desk latch. Very smart.” He turned to the record displayed on the screen. “You’re right. This wouldn’t be authorized for dissenters or persons of treason. Whoever is knocked up is someone big, but I have no idea who the patient is. The name and ID number is written in with nonsense.”
“I know,” I said tapping the patient record and getting an error message. I tapped a square box right below the ID number and used my carrier gene smartness to hack into the results. Maybe getting information about the baby would help us discover the patient’s name. “Just one second and I’ll be in,” I said in the middle of tapping and typing. I took a step back. “There. It should…and we are in!” The results page scrolled across the screen. My eyes skimmed the entire information. “The test occurred two weeks ago at one in the morning. Doctor Franklin Cantor signed the authorization override and performed the scan.” I trailed my finger to that

Graverobber reached into the cooler beside him, pulling out a can of soda. He popped it open with just his thumb and brought it to his lips. “I’m younger than most of the vampires here,” He said, sipping down the drink. “I was born in the year 1858, on April 15th. The name my parents gave me was ‘John Patrick Nolan’, and sometimes my father called me, ‘Jack’ for short,” Graverobber sat the can down; and he adjusted himself so he could hold his son in a more comfortable position.…

Patient identification and the corresponding of a patient to their medication and treatment being done is an important practice that is carried out in all hospitals and Doctor’s offices. It can be potentially fatal to patient’s safety and health if proper patient identification is not routinely done. “The failure to correctly identify patients and match that information to an intended clinical intervention continues to result in wrong person, wrong site procedures, medication errors, transfusion errors and diagnostic testing errors.” Hospitals and Doctor’s office settings should have protocols, policies, guidelines, and continuous training in place to patient identification. Stressing the key responsibility of health-care workers to check the identity of patients and to make sure it is with the correct patient with the correct care before any procedures and medications are done or administered.…

I was completely exhausted as my feet ached with pain from standing. After seeing twenty plus patients with Dr. Martin Christensen, I relished the brief period of time between patients in which I was aloud to sit. However, Dr. Christensen was still running on all cylinders, just as he had earlier that morning. In between cases, Dr. Christensen had just enough time to take a sip of coffee before handing me his spare stethoscope and blistering down the hallway to see his next patient. As soon as Dr. Christensen opened the exam room door, we were met by the exuberant giggling of a wide-eyed newborn baby.…
