Personal Narrative: The Rotary Club Of Tucson

Improved Essays
Over the past year, I’ve been exposed to many different facets of the Rotary Club of Tucson. I have a very distinct favorite memory from the year. In December, I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Salvation Army bell ringing. I was paired with Maria, a new Rotarian. We had an amazing experience. It was freezing cold, starting to sprinkle, yet we were trying to play “Jingle Bells” with our bells. We discussed many different topics, from my course of study to the 2016 Presidential Election. This experience helped me realize the impact Rotary has had in my life this year.

The Rotary Club of Tucson has shown me that just because you become involved with work or school doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your community involvement. I have

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…

After looking around the room and noticing all the delighted expressions on people’s faces, I, too, opened my letter. I swiftly read the paper and instantly became disheartened. I didn’t make it. After all of my advanced classes and extracurricular activities, it still wasn’t enough to ensure a position as a member of the National Honor Society. I was utterly devastated.…

I have always known that I wanted to serve in the justice system; the concept has constantly been reaffirmed in my mind as new life experiences continue to lead me in that direction. The problem with that particular direction is that it has several paths to take, and deciding which path to take takes a lot of time and consideration in order to make the best choice. Over time, I have realized that my individual strengths and personality are best suited to succeed in the legal field rather than the political or law enforcement areas of the justice system. One of my first experiences that led me to this conclusion was my involvement in Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a Big Sister, I learned that there are many children in the world that need an…

    A) The only way the Hispanic community will be able to live decent lives and be adequately represented in government is if we are in positions of power. On December 18th of 2010, the 36 republican and 5 democratic senators did not have my dreams in mind. They did not understand that I don 't have a single memory of the place where I was born. In truth they will never fully know what it 's like to grow up in a country that empowers your dreams, overtakes you with its culture, just to shut you out upon the request of documents that you do not understand why you can 't provide. A college degree will inevitably increase my standard of life but it will stand for so much more. .…

Contributing to my community has been something that has interested me, and something I've enjoyed since I was a kid. Most of my community service work has been high school, where I found opportunities to help more easily accessible. And not just community service projects, but clubs that helped me and other participating educated others who were not as knowledgeable on black culture or experience, get a view into our lives, while also creating bonds and relationships. African Diaspora is a club that I’ve been in since my freshman year of high school, it is a club that educates, not only the people that join, but the entire school who cares to listen about history of African migration, and how African descendants from all around the world…

After I have completed my education, I plan on joining the rotary club to help spread my passion for both community and friendship. I want to collaborate with minds from all over the world to make my community a better place. I can do so by hosting an exchange student or by helping students in my community fundraise money for their own youth exchange trip. Hosting an exchange student will let that student make new ideas to take back and spread within their own community. Helping students in my community fund their own trip will let them experience the world in a new perspective and bring home ideas from other cultures.…

The term honor in National Honor Society can be used to describe an individual that shows integrity, equality and respect through their actions. As a student of Beacon high school, I have made many efforts to model my daily actions around exemplifying the student of honor. Through demonstrations of leadership, character, and service, I have shown my qualification to be admitted into the National Honor Society. I exhibit good character to the community by helping to teach younger children during Sunday school at my church. For the past three months I have volunteered in the youth department teaching elementary students ethical lessons, actively shaping their morals.…
