We were able to see a typical room that a family stayed in, the kitchen, various living areas, laundry facilities and donation storage area. The Ronald McDonald House feels like a real home not like a temporary-stay type of facility like a hotel. It has character and intimate touches like kid’s artwork hung throughout the house. When we were there, the house appeared quite for the most part, only the kitchen was occupied when we when on our tour. But the assistant manager told us that today had already been quite a busy day for her with errands to run, rooms to get ready, calls to make, and another large tour group. How busy she was made me feel like it may have been polite to have called ahead just so they would have been expecting us. The enormous amount of donations and the variety of donations really surprised me. There was a large room in the basement full of material donations, anything from sippy cups to towels were all housed there. We also learned that a different group from the community sponsors/prepares dinner every day of the week which is a huge help for the staff. There is also monetary donations that families can use if they really need things like gas to drive
