Personal Narrative: The Roller Coaster Ride

“Welcome to the superman. Dramatic music plays. Please watch your step as you board the ride.” I am so reluctant to do this, I think. My brother looks over his shoulder. “How nervous are you?” he asks. “Only a little!” I say. Really I am just pretty excited. All day we have been walking around riding on roller coasters. Just as we were about to leave Six Flags, my dad asked us if we wanted to go on the superman ride. Initially, I did not even consider this as an option. Generally, bigger roller coasters similar to Goliath and Raging Bull aren’t very fun to me. However, small roller coasters with loops and twists generally entertain me a lot. Thinking back, it wasn’t even my decisions that made me reluctant to ride the roller coaster. It was my mom’s. It was the only ride in the entire park that she disliked. Usually I have similar opinions to her, so this really influenced me. I snap back into focus after hearing the voices of the people around me. I divert my attention to fastening my harness, and I try not to get nervous.

The screams blend in with the noises from the other coasters as we screech down the track toward the loop. I feel my stomach drop out from under me as we zoom through the coaster. There it is! I think. The finish! Whew! The drop is finally over! Momentum from the drop slings our car up the track and in a straight line toward the loop. “Oh, my, gosh!” my brother says. Within a second we had gone from shooting along the track like we were flying to laying on our back with the car below us. Once again, my stomach was out from under me as we plummet towards the extremely fast approaching ground. At the last second, the car follows the track, as we knew it would. This sequence whizzed us through the loop and back up towards the core of the roller coaster. I can’t believe how awesome this

A few years ago, on a class trip, my friends had asked me to ride at least one roller coaster. It was not a large roller coaster, but it made me queasy just looking at it. I was confident that I would be able to go on and enjoy the experience. My confidence quickly evaporated when we began climbing up the roller coaster’s first hill. The ride dropped, and I was screaming so loudly that I could only hear myself.…

I remember the gut wrenching feeling in my stomach as my best friend and I approached the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Hershey Park, called SkyRush. I am not sure why I agreed to go on this roller coaster, considering most of the time at amusement parks I entertain myself with food, and miniature rides that stay level to the ground. Unlike me, my friend liked the rush and heart dropping feeling of being at the apex of a roller coaster and then dropping down at maximum speed. Personally, I preferred the ground, where I remained in full control of my own safety. Yet that afternoon I found myself standing in line for SkyRush.…

We all had agreed to go this Saturday and ride the rollercoaster. The next day was already Saturday. I of course always had been scared of rollercoasters. They were never my thing, I always feel like butterflies in my stomach and my hands get shaky and sweaty. As my friends knocked on the door and walked into my house.…

I got comfortable with the rollercoaster as if I became one with it. I waved my arms up high enjoying the crazy loops and turns. The rollercoaster went inside of a dark cave that blinded everyone. Water splashed on us like an atomic bomb as we exited the cave. Maybe this rollercoaster was not so bad after all.…

Although this place might be an ordinary amusement park for some people, it is one of my favorite places of all time. The first best thing I enjoyed about Six Flags is there roller coasters. When I first arrived at Six Flags, I was nervous and scared, but also thrilled to get on the rides. As I walked towards the entrance I knew I was going to have a good time.…

I got halfway up the loop before sliding back the way that I had come. This relates to the game ‘snakes and ladders’. With the slide being the snake, and myself becoming the colored game piece that is forced to go backwards. In the same fashion, the rate by which that game of snakes and ladders was amplified was then applied to the feelings I had in that moment.…

It only had two loops and no drop. I had never been on all the big rides/main attractions like El Toro, Nitro, or Green Lantern. So when Jimmy convinced me to go on the tallest roller coaster in the world, Kingda Ka, I must have been out of my mind... and I was.…

Sit back, buckle up, and get ready to scream because I love roller coasters. My family and I go to Cedar Point about every month in the summer, and my dad and I go and ride everything in the park. It is just so fun! The one thing I really like about roller coasters is that there are little rides for the youth kids also. My least favorite thing is when I am not tall enough to enjoy a ride, which doesn’t really occur anymore.…

In just a few seconds they would be off, gone to travel over the track in a bright blur. The screams enclosed the car with the force of adrenaline as it appeared and disappeared in a flash. I heard the happy and terrified screams of the people on the coaster and the booming voice of the ones controlling it while strolling around Paradise Pier in Disneyland with my family. At this point, I hadn't been on the roller coaster yet. I preferred to keep myself on the ground and not on the coaster going up side down into crazy drops.…

So this meant that my brother and sister got to sit in the very front of the roller coaster car, and my dad and I were right behind them. When we got in, it seemed like no time had passed from when we got in the line, to when we were seated in the ride getting ready for a moment that I would never forget. We waited for about 30 seconds for the workers to make sure everybody was strapped in safely. When the carts then started down this tiny slope to a straight away over the water. I was a mix of scared and excited for the ride.…

Then the third gate was the worst, who could hear people screaming their heads off, and feel the ground shake like there was an earthquake, and it was our turn next!!! I was TERRIFIED, Claire had fingernail marks in her arm, and as our cart emptied of the people before us, I got light headed, I vaguely remember getting in and buckled. I started to take deep breaths I was starting to feel better when I felt how secure the harnesses were. But then we started to move, at first it was okay, slow and easy going around the first corner, but then I saw the unbelievable hill that was 170 ft tall, this ride brakes 7 different records in the world and one is it’s got the longest drop for a wing coaster!!! Slowly climbing to the top, felt longer than the car ride!…

It was the largest, most thrilling roller coaster yet to be found. I didn't believe it but knowing my best friend Prisa she was not gonna let me miss out on as she would always say, “once in a lifetime opportunities”. It was a hot, sunny day as the sun lit up the whole park. The blunt air had no wind or even a soft gentle breeze. It was just plain old humid and to add on to that, we were crowded with a solid 200 people in the line,…

However, just as I said this the spiritless roller coaster attendant strapped me in permanently ensuring I couldn’t back out. After the attendants strapped everyone in, they did their whole spiel on how we were going to have a great time, but the words muddled in my mind as I was more focused on breathing. The car moved onward and screeched at us as if in warning. Then suddenly the car stopped, I’m pretty sure just to spite us.…
