Personal Narrative-The Right Next To The Water

Decent Essays
It was a warm, muggy evening in November 2012. Dad had just returned home from a long day at work, and so he asked if anyone wanted to go with him on a quick paddle ride. As usual, I said yes. Living right next to the water makes it easy for us to just jump on the kayak and go, and we had a good chance of seeing lots of different organisms and critters out there. There were southern stingrays, nurse and bonnethead sharks, and barrel sponge, to name a few. But today, we were to find something different. Something exquisite. The full moon glistend down on the sea like a spotlight as Dad and I glided through the glassy water. As he purposefully moved the beam of his headlamp over the ocean, needlefish of all sizes skittered across the surface.

“A leader has to watch every word he or she says and quickly learns that you can’t go through life without a few critics, some well deserved” (pg. 5), this quote as some of the beginning words from MacDonald truly shows that a leader has responsibilities to uphold to. I found it interesting that he showed these responsibilities are not only external, but internal as well. Many do not realize the internal battles that leaders in ministry go through, and in order for leaders to handle a situation in a mature manner; they must uphold to the responsibilities of character they are expected to maintain. There are many internal and external expectations of leaders that are specified in Building Below the Waterline, but only some really stood out to me as factors that I would practice more than others in my leadership positions.…

Close call on Current River In the small town of Popular Bluff, Missouri, sun was brightly shining down on this hot summer morning, making it the optimum day to go tubbing down Current River. That morning there were about eight of us going tubbing, my stepfather Larry, two uncles, an aunt, my sister, my two brothers and I. We loaded up the car with the essentials that would be needed; then we loaded up into two vehicles and headed for the river. When we finally arrived at the water’s edge my brother John and I were so excited, we basically leapt out of the car before it came to a complete stop.…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…

Yesterday , when I was just strolling along the river during my vacation at a quiet and peaceful resort, a loud noise suddenly came into my ears. I quickened my pace slightly to the place where the noise came from, and found that a white car fell down into the river when the driver was parking his car into the parking space. Fortunately, the driver was safe, while the most important problem was how to get the car out of the water. Several minutes later, the rescue team arrived along with a truck crane, and they bound the automobile to the hook on the lift arm. After completing the whole preparatory work, they launched the auto-lift.…

I dove right into the water and feel the coldness of it come up my wetsuit. Swimming through schools of fish, and recognizing different species of coral and reef. Bubbles are emerging from my regulator, they glide past my mask like mini jelly fish talking to me in their own language. They make me relax and take in all the excitement and forget about all my worries. I have always dreamed of the day where I would be tearing through the skies at seven hundred knots in an F-16. I have always wondered how incredible it must feel to soar above a massive sea clouds thousands of feet in the air. I have always wanted to look around and see three more jet blasting through the sky alongside me and hear nothing but radio chatter and the muffled roar of the engine. I have always felt that I was born to become an outstanding soldier and a stellar pilot. I have a passion for flying that can only be matched by love for this country and my dedication to my family.…

7:00 am- I open my eyes and a thin beam of early-morning light shines into by enormous bedroom. A breeze blows the drapes on my bay window revealing the sun still low in the sky, which cast feeble shadows about the room, decorated with exotic souvenirs and artifacts from my adventures all over the world. I step out the door to a deck with a huge, sparkling pool and a trail leading back towards the rocky cliff overlooking the ocean. I follow the trail out to the cliff and study the tropical, green-blue water so far below for a moment.…
