When I worked on my Eagle project, I had to communicate between my troop, the homeless shelter I was working for, the people I was buying supplies from, and the people who were helping me raise funds. I had never built a patio or barbeque area, nor had I refurbished a bench before, so I took careful notes from both a contractor and a handyman to ensure I did it right. To get the project approved, I wrote a 14-page proposal, and then raised $1000. Then, due to an irremovable deadline, I ended up doing the project the same week as my SAT and all three of my AP tests. It was one of the most mentally and emotionally draining challenges I had in my life, and not everything went smoothly.…

I was all packed and ready to set off on my 10 day adventure to H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation but all that's in my way is about 12 hours and 9 of them I’m going restless because I’m so excited and I keep my dad up by asking him questions but when I have an important one he’s gone “MOM wheres Dad.” I said “he’s seeing his mom,” with a couple of tears running down her face “ It will probably going to be the last time he sees her” and I remember that she is in the hospital. It has been about 5 ½ months since she has been diagnosed with glioblastoma.…

"Hey, look at his butt!" Jack whispers, sending his friends into ceaseless bouts of giggles. After fifteen minutes of instruction, the group of five-year-olds retained one idea: Winnie-the-Pooh's hindquarters were more entertaining than learning about hand hygiene. I demonstrate proper handwashing techniques once more, as my pride, and the minute remnants of Vaseline on my hand, make a Usain Bolt-like dash towards the drain of the polished metal basin.…

Though I love everything that I do, My favorite thing I do is work up at an all boys camp in Rhinelander, Wisconsin called Camp Deerhorn. Every year that I travel up to camp, I look forward to meeting new people and forming some new friendships. In my room I have a plaque that reads “Camp Deerhorn Creed.” It was written by the founder of Camp Deerhorn, Dr. Don C. Broadbridge in 1930, and it lists out 13 of the most essential and important ways on how to act in order to become a gentleman. My two personal favorites are “Too spread sunshine and good cheer, just for the fun of it.”…
