Personal Narrative: The Real Monsters

Sometimes in life, the real monsters are not who we think they are. They are not the ones under the bed, or in the closet. They are not the ones that lurk in the dark corners of your room. These monsters wear a mask. The mask is so good in fact, you may know some of these monsters without even realizing it. You can grow up with these monsters for years, never suspecting a single thing wrong. At least, that's the case with my story.

I do, and always have, lived in a small rural area. Nothing was ever out of the ordinary. No strange sightings of beasts, no murders, and the occasional tornado, but that was it. I had never experienced true fear, of the unknown or otherwise, at least until
