Personal Narrative: The Progression Of Time

I do not pretend to be rid of the darkness; I am not able. I let it consume and dictate my thoughts. Hours of putting my obscurity into word form helped my mind, (somewhat) cope with the ache of another year passing… Throughout life, I have come to accept that I am prone to the …show more content…
My heart and mind is in a constant state of fluctuation and confusion, but with clarifying thoughts that lend a lucid approach to the “management” of existence. As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

This poem chronicles the evolution of an adult from an ambiguous time after the year 1000. It is written in modern English, suggesting it is closer to the present day. The speaker describes his descent into a state disconnected from previously faithful self. It is apparent that he longs for his prior innocence and devotion to God. The poem can be divided into two distinct parts; the first stanza recalls the first of his two “mortal paths” which was the innocence of his youth.…

People often become aware of what is happening in their life when something tragic or something out of the ordinary happens. Life is a changing thing and change is an inevitable factor. Instances of change can be seen in the poems Root Cellar by Theodore Roethke, Eating Together by Li-Young Lee, and Living in Sin by Adrienne Rich. The value of the change that is occurring is great although the event causing the change may seem small or insignificant at the time. The life cycle of birth, maturity, and death are what all humans experience in a full span of life and it is not always an easy journey.…

While growing up the foodwork within my household was not shared equally among both my parents. Even with a full-time job, my mom did both lunch, and dinner cooking; my mom would prepare lunch before she left for work early morning. When cooking my mom would do everything from start to the end without any help, which included washing, cutting, cooking, and the cleaning-up process. After watching my mom be the primary homemaker, I have learned to accept that this is a requirement for all women, and it is your job to be a homemakers after marriage. When comparing it to now, the time constraint theory is shown since my mom left her full-time job for a part time job, hence she has more time for foodwork duties (Brady, Power, Szabo & Gingras, 2017).…

Where You End and I Begin For much of my life, I have been tied down religiously by my family. From the moment my skin had been exposed to the world, I could pretty much assume my father had covered it to abide by the law of tzniut: modesty for women. At the age of eight was when my mother and I snuck buying me my first pair of pants, a secret we kept from my father. I remember we walked around town in West Hampton Beach (aka -the “Jewish” Hamptons) and there was the ‘end of summer sale’ in main street. I stroked my finger tips through all the velveteen overalls and corduroy pants, watching all the girls try on clothes and show them off their fathers and mothers who smiled approvingly.…
