Personal Narrative: The President Of Boys

The President of Boys
Thinking that I was going to have to become the “leader,” or otherwise correct form as, “President,” as a calling from my bishop sent chills through my blood and my heart pounding. I knew that there would be a new president called since our previous one moved away sadly as he was a friend, but I didn’t really think of being called. I was called to be the president of the deacon’s quorum.
It was a sunny day and church had just ended and I was walking through the hallways of the building that had half white walls, a brown wooden chair railing across the middle, and a rough, hairy tan colored wall as the other half. I’ve walked through this hallway many times before, waiting for either my brother to get out of his teacher’s

I was thinking that this concerns the fact that I may become the first of second counselor to the new president. I was highly mistaken.
“The bishopric and stake presidency has prayed on our candidates and we have found you worthy to take on this role.” Declared Brother Schein, “I ask you, will you take on this role?”
With my heart hammering, my hands shaking and my mouth hanging open, I said a simple, “Yes.”
“Good,” Brother Schein exclaimed, “Now you need to pick and pray for your candidates for your counselors and secretary.”
With that, he left the room and I stood in the middle of the room for a minute, dumbfounded that I was picked and what I this new responsibility that has now been put on my

I prayed like that for few nights, and I came to a decision on my choices.
That next Sunday in the church as I was in the hallway, Brother Schein pulled me off again into one of the empty classrooms. “So what is your people?” he asked me.
“Jared as my first counselor, Zach as the second and Bruce as the secretary.” I had explained.
“Alright, good Seth, I will give these names to the stake presidency so they can pray on your decision,” exclaimed Brother Schein. We both walked out of the room and we went our separate ways as I walked over to my left to the classroom that is known as the deacon’s classroom, which it’s probably the only different classroom in the whole church building as it also serves as the scout room. It had the usual chalkboard on a wall, but above it, there was the boy scout rank advancement symbols, tenderfoot, 2nd class, 1st class, star, life, and eagle the highest rank. To the left, there was a light brown door that led to a storage closet for scouts. As I walked in I took a seat on one of the cold, tan colored foldable metal chairs, and our meeting

This week’s reading focused on the elaborate bureaucracy that is the United Methodist Church regarding its many governing bodies from conferences to committees, boards, and agencies. I found it interesting as the concerns over the democratic-like voting processes for each group was discussed. For instance, Tuell highlights the issues surrounding alternate forms for electing bishops, i.e. not using an appointment system, and how this would lead to parochialism (page 121). If each conference elected its own bishop it would also affect the pastoral appointment system and ultimately “allowing a constituency to elect and call its own ‘pastor,’ rather than having one appointed to it.” During my reflection on this topic, I feel there is a higher tendency…

Both Baxter and Witmer, in their books “The Reformed Pastor”,” The Shepherd Leader”, argue about how to be a good leader in a biblical way for Maturate Pastoral Ministry. While Baxter describes from his own point of view, Witmer harmonizes with Baxter including other points. Firstly, in this essay, we will be comparing and contrast, Timothy Witmer’s framework for leadership with his “old shepherd friend” Richard Baxter in The Reformed Pastor (1657) Secondly, we are going to Evaluate Witmer’s framework for leadership in which extant is biblical, practical and relevant to my personal context. Hierarchical, authoritarian, programmatic church leaders make little sense to a generation inherently skeptical of cold institutions and corrupt leadership. Highly visible, fallen church leaders, impeached political leaders, and amoral celebrities have only served to sustain their skepticism. Positional authority figures have little, lasting impact upon them. If a leader is not personally approachable in style and character, they will not voluntarily follow. They value diversity, mutuality, and inclusive interactions, while affirming democratic role models.…

    Oscar Romero Analysis

    • 1605 Words
    • 7 Pages

At the beginning of the film, Oscar Romero was presented as a bookworm who lived more in his own world than in the real world. He based most of his understanding of the world off of the things he had read in books. Romero also shows his belief that the church should be separate from state, when he stays in the car when himself and another priest go to help people who had been stopped by the military on there way to the voting polls. As the movie progresses he is shown transforming into a more involved member of the community. When Father Grande was killed, Romero decided that there should no longer be a separate church for the rich and the poor, and he worked to make one mass for everyone.…

    Early Church Leaders

God’s purpose has always been to form a people for his glory, and the way in which he does this is through gathering Christians into local churches so that they might display his character, grow into maturity, and live in the unity that Jesus prayed for in John 17. The question that is often asked, however, is, “Who responsible for these churches?” In God’s wise purposes he gives leaders, called elders, to guide every local church to carry out her God-given mission. They are not “the Shepherd,” but they are undershepherds to God’s flock. This does not mean, however, that these leaders carry out this task alone.…

Clarity: There is no doubt that a business writing which is clearly written gives your audience or the intended receiver a clear understanding of the content of your message. For example, let say in two weeks time, there is going to be an announcement in the office, but however I wish to personally inform you that by Friday next week my position in the office will void or empty because I will be going to our Jakarta office to accept a five year's assignment over there. Introduction It is very important for Christians to pray for each other. As Christians, we not only should pray for one another, but dwell on God’s word with one another. By doing so will allow each one of us to receive God’s blessing in accordance to his will. The bible states that “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.…
