My sophomore year of high school, I played softball for the Quitman Lady Wolverines. My primary position has always been second base; however, I started the year the year off playing short stop and played there for several games. During the Cedar Creek tournament, I injured my wrist throwing a ball from short stop to first base. I was taken from my position and put into left field. I continued to move around the field and I never had a permanent position. I ended the season playing in left field at the state tournament. I did not do well in this tournament considering that outfield is not what I am strongest at. I missed a ball that was hit to me to cause the Florien Cats to score two unearned runs. I was very discouraged and disappointed in myself. This game was our second baseman’s last game because she was a senior. After the state tournament, we had our off season. I knew that I wanted to start on second base the following year, and I wanted second base to be my permanent position. This was my chance to become the best second baseman I could be. I worked and worked to get better. My dad and I went to the ball field a few times a week to practice. I was determined to be the Quitman Lady Wolverine’s starting second baseman my junior year. …show more content…
I was both nervous and confident at the same time. I wanted to play second base so badly, but I was confident with the work I had done in the off season to prepare for the try out. I made the team and Coach Muse started to evaluate me on second base. She liked the way I played the position, and she could tell that I had been working hard to improve and make myself a better player; she was proud of me. Although I made the position, I still had to keep up the good work to stay at second base permanently. I practiced on second base during team practices and started there for the whole season. This position was so much more difficult than playing in the outfield. Switching to this position is one of the hardest things I have ever done. When I played as a first baseman for the first time, I was terrible. I didn’t know the specific terms used in the infield to determine where to stand. If someone threw the ball at me, I could not…

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

I couldn't wait to get back on that field in front of those scouts and show them that I had become a far better player than I was the year before. I had put so much effort into getting better in all aspects of my game and I knew I was poised to have a great tryout. After hours days that felt like years of grueling work in the weight room and in the batting cages, the day had come to tryout to punch my ticket to Long Beach. I knew that I was better than what the coach thought of me, so that embarrassment changed into something new. It turned into motivation. Every night after practice I would hit extra in the batting cage and even in the morning before school. Partway through my first Junior Varsity baseball practice, it was clear that I was the least qualified player on the team. Still learning the basics of baseball, I was pulled aside by the coaches and told that they were still uncertain of their decision and that they would be monitoring my progress to determine eligibility. As soon as I got home, I studied baseball through any video, started attending every practice offered, and constantly requested one-on-one coaching sessions. My coaches slowly took notice of my commitment and my rapidly developing skill set in baseball.…

Pop Up I've played baseball as long as I can remember, but somehow, as a junior in highschool, my swing was still consistently inconsistent. You'd think that the many years of swinging a bat over and over and all the hundreds of baseball movies would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. Well not completely wrong, I did learn a few pointers on how to get my timing down, and I could run decently fast, but I wasn't going to be drafted into the MLB or even scouted for a college team. Last summer, my VFW summer team wasn't anything special; we had a few solid players, but also some players, like me, were struggling to make solid contact with the baseball.…

You know how some people say there was a certain moment that changed their life completely? Well, this was that moment for me, and it all was caused by a miscommunication.
