“It always seems impossible until it's done.” (Done Quotes). To start with a quote from Nelson Mandela about the impossible is how I began this class, I thought it to be impossible and how I would never reach the end of this class. As I joined in this class I figured my only goals were to finish with a passing grade and hopefully skim through the class enough to complete the course. I had heard stories from older students of the horrors this class brought through long essays and a tremendous amount of class work; nonetheless, I journeyed into the class and was quite astonished to find that the work was not difficult but inspiring and helpful. The essays, although hard, were not over topics that were not to unbearable to where it was almost …show more content…
Through all the things I have learned from the life lessons in the Place In The Hearts lessons, the way of metacognition or to think before you write in order to gather your thoughts for the betterment of your paper, to the way on how to properly cite your sources and edit an academic paper, the one that is most important to me is how to correctly cite our sources in an academic essay. This is for the single fact that you, the instructor, told us that in college this is what they will look at for a majority of the time. When first starting this class I had an idea of how to create a works cited as well as how to insert a website into a citation machine; however, my knowledge lacked on if it was being done properly. Throughout the semester it was clear I was far off from creating any citation that was par with MLA’s format. Now at the conclusion of this class I have not mastered, but honed my skills and am now able to cite a website, author, or graph properly and be at par with an MLA formatted works cited. Although with my luck still to learn, I have gathered much knowledge and am confident with my advancement into the full college experience in

Every Life Matters I really only started understanding the meaning of abortion once one of my mom’s friends had one. Before that I had very little knowledge about abortion. My parents have always taught me to stand by what I believe and that others may have different beliefs. They always told me that I would meet people that would disagree with me and what I believe not only when it came to these kind of topics but many other things as well. Being told that, they told me to always respect people’s beliefs and their points of view because everyone has the right to stand by what they believe, just like I do.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

“The Tell-Tale Heart” was incredible from beginning to end. It was full of suspense and I didn’t expect the mental breakdown, although I should have. Then there’s “Ode to Joy”, pretty self-explanatory. “Ride of the Valkyries” always inspires me to act, even if the situation does not call for such dramatic music. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was a delightful read, although I could barely make out most the words.…

Coming to Carleton in September I thought I had a decent grasp on general business know how and how business worked, but after taking this course I have learned how little I knew, and how much there was for me to learn. So far in the course I would say I have learned a ridiculous amount, from business language to the skills you need to have a successful interview. In this memo, I will be covering a number of lessons I have learned, and these fall into three categories. The first being what I learned from the course, mostly what I learned in lectures and doing Learnsmart questions. These lessons have been predominantly the knowledge I have acquired through the professor and the textbook.…

As a child, having rules to follow wasn’t unheard of with my family. There was always a way to behavior with friends/family, at school, at home and out in the street. Often I found myself getting into trouble because I didn 't listen and also the fact that I always found some kind of way to slipping out of having to doing something that I knew I was supposed to do. But out of all the people in my family my mom was the strictest. When expectations set high, not meaning them meant my siblings and I typical had a week long cleaning punishments along with handing over all toys, games, and light up sneakers; about three times a week this happened to me.…
