Personal Narrative: The Pirates Volleyball Team

Improved Essays
On April 2015, my volleyball team (The Pirates Volleyball Club) and I, won second place in the Manitoba Championships. We had to work really hard to get to where we were, because at the beginning of the season, our coaches put us with the age group that was one year older than us. When we started, we really struggled in tournaments. As we progressed, we worked our way up and up and got to first place, but then in our last game, against the grade eight (now grade nine) girls of Grant Park, we moved down to second place. Even though it’s not first, we did so well and I was, and really still am, so proud of my team and that I was able to be part of such a great experience. I remember, when we were waiting to receive our medals, I just could not …show more content…
Although we, as residents of Winnipeg, Manitoba, are not often impacted by these horrible attacks, many women, men and children suffer and die every day are. Attacks are not only killings, but civilians are also taken from their homes and families, and tortured in ways we cannot even imagine. One of the biggest, and most impacting acts of terrorism was the 9/11 attack in 2001, on the Twin Towers in New York. The act consisted of four planes that belonged to the Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda, and were suicide attacks used to target symbolic US landmarks. One of the newest groups producing many deadly attacks is Isis. According to The Onion news article, this group was formed in a garage by a college drop-out named Abu Musab al- Zarqawi. The Global Terrorism Index tells us that the top five countries with the most terrorist attacks in order are Iraq with the highest score of 10, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria. Living in Canada, we are very safe as we are ranked number 84 with the score of .95. I chose this world problem because of how big and horrible it's impact is. People live in panic and fear all day every day worried wether they will be alive to come home to their families after school or work. This feeling must be horrible. Also, the fear of your loved ones being attacked is probably one of the worst feelings out there. People who are harmed by being in, or even just …show more content…
In my family situation, I would like to still be in touch and close with my immediate family mostly but also hopefully my extended family. As for a family of my own, I would love to have a husband, a couple of kids and of course a couple of dogs too. I would like to be living in an apartment, condo or house but I would enjoy a house the most. The reason I think like this is because first, there is more room than in an apartment or condo, and secondly because I'd love a large yard space for things like a barbeque, a play structure for my kids, and space for just some chairs to lounge on those hot summer days. As for my working situation, im not sure exactly what I would like to be doing, but I do know that I'm interested in things like psycology or psyciatry. I am interested in these things because they involve how the brain works. When my sister was in 12th grade, she was taking an advanced psycology class, and I was helping her study for her exam. When she was answering the questions and giving me the facts, i found the content very interesting and something I could see myself studying. My mom is also a psycologist, so I also find the interest from her. A small part of me is interested in being a trauma sugeon because things like that dont really bother me, but I dont know if Im ready for that much commitment of very long schooling, and crazy work hours. In my spare time, I would

My swim team has an honored tradition of shaving their heads the night before the district swim meet. Districts is by far the biggest meet of the year where all swimmers attempt to break personal records and qualify for state. This shaving of the heads promises a possible time drop of maybe one tenth of a second and also builds a sense of team unity. In 2013, my freshman year of high school, I refused to partake in this sacred ritual.…

Academically, the knowledge that I have acquired over the years has helped to prepare me for what is ahead in this program as well as for my future career, as it spans all aspects of the human body focusing mainly on its physical functions but also a large contribution to the psychological functions as well.…
