I live in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia. One of the problems in my neighborhood that causes me concern is the drug and alcohol abuse I see. There are needles left on the sidewalks and in the streets all over my neighborhood. Drunken arguments between intoxicated people in the early hours of the morning happen on a regular basis, and I often have people who are clearly on drugs knocking on my door insisting to pull the weeds from my patio for money. This always makes me sad because I have children who go outside to play and I don’t like them to see people strung out on drugs walking around the neighborhood trying to get money for a fix. The two resources I chose to help with this problem are The Philadelphia Prevention Partnership and Sobriety …show more content…

It is a multicultural partnership that addresses addiction issues by providing education, information and training programs. They work with individuals, families, agencies, and community and cultural groups so they can effectively reach key ethnic population groups. My second choice is Sobriety Online. I chose this agency because their goal is to provide all the necessary info resources to help people who are already addicts get all the help and support they will need on their road to

More youths have succumbed to addictions involving Meth and Heroin, and many are dying as a result. No one seemed to be paying any attention until it reached epidemic proportions, or as some have suggested, become a "white middle class problem" that surpassed the poor minority populations.…

Diseases can be spread in many ways that are not often thought about. One of these ways has become more prominent in the Licking County area. The issues with drug abuse in this county are on the rise and the existing programs are not enough to solve them. Diseases are being rapidly spread between people because those who are addicted do not have access to all of the essential supplies that they need to inject the drugs into themselves. Due to the lack of these supplies, they have resorted to sharing dirty needles that are contaminated with the blood of other users.…

Returning to my conversation with the cocaine addict, it concluded with his agreeing to try our new understanding by his posting of signs in his environs to remind him to speak with his mouth full and to have self-control in other areas of his day-to-day life. For instance: • not to interrupt • not to angrily yell (rather, remain calm and civilly express feelings) • not to eat while walking or standing • not to cut in line or grab food • not to jump to conclusions • not to leave a mess after usage of whatever items • to have the patience to tidy and order one’s home/room/possessions • to return borrowed items promptly • and so forth Note: someone, addict or not, who is trying to increase willpower by this method, may require the input of others to best determine what manners or character traits need strengthening. ~ As it happened, later that same day, I was to advise a woman who, also, had a cocaine problem.…

Gang Violence has been an issue for many years in and out of Philadelphia. But as the years past its happening more frequent in Philadelphia. The reason why I chose gang violence in Philadelphia is because every year Philadelphia’s violence, crime, murder and homicide rates increases and most of the time the culprit is from Gangs. Also I live in Philadelphia and Gangs have a huge effect in and out of the city, it is getting out of hand and someone’s got to do something about it and speak up.
