Personal Narrative: The Path Of A Forensic Analyst

Decent Essays
Forty years later and almost everyone involved in that story is dead. My life had been altered by the events and ironically led me down the path of a forensic analyst. My sole job being to preserve blood and other fluids, fingerprints, human tissues, fibers, and weapons-related evidence and examine crime scenes. Simply put, I find out who the bad guys are. The doll - still eyeless, dirt smudged into the petticoat - lies dormant on my mantelpiece. It has been there ever since we cleared out my mother’s house.

I have a confession to make, I enjoy the practice of Criminal Defense. As a criminal defense attorney, I represent those charged with a crime, whether it's traffic, DWI/DUI, misdemeanor or felony. As per the explanation I have heard from many people, I defend the 'scum of the earth.' Since deciding this was my area of practice as an attorney, I have heard from friends, family and even total strangers that my chosen profession is 'wrong,' 'despicable,' I've even been told what I do is "what's wrong with America. " I try to have a legitimate discussion with these individuals to explain my decision to practice criminal defense.…

I do not think there are defense attorneys that do not work as hard to defend all of their clients because defense attorneys are supposed to defend clients even if they believe they are guilty. At any type of job, you are going work hard with your clients, so I think defense attorneys should work just as hard with their clients even if they have a hard time because they know their client is guilty. Defense attorneys are ethically bound to zealously represent all clients, the guilty as well as the innocent (Morales, San Francisco Criminal Law Blog papa #1). Defense attorney needs to work hard because chances are their clients is not going to tell them if they are guilty or not. If their clients say they are guilty, they could be lying, so…

I can not believe that we are halfway through this class already. It did pass quickly for me being that I have been through a lot while attending BMC and that I am about to graduate. This is my last class and I am so exited to finally be able to say I have my degree in Criminal Justice. I have enjoyed some experiences so far, most of my classes were hard and some were easy but I have managed to make it this far so I wont give up on myself like others have in the past. What stands out to me most at this pint and time would be all the things that I thought did not mean anything actually does have a purpose.…

Being raised in a family in which most members have chosen a life of service, either as a member of law enforcement or one of our country’s military branches, proves worrisome for loved ones. My family is no exception because my dad and brother both serve our country. I usually can bury the fear and worry for their safety deep within me, but many of our country’s major headline events just hit too close to home. Peace-keepers often face life-threatening dangers, which have shaped me into a more caring person who cherishes the gift of life. The personal fear that I have experienced almost losing my dad and brother through tragic events ignited by hatred demand my personal maturity and compassion.…

I have had many experiences with the criminal justice system being married to a police officer for 15 years, but I have had two personal encounters. One was when I was a juvenile being at wrong place at the wrong time and my second one five years ago. My first experience wasn’t so bad, but the second encounter was clearly my fault and it was awful. I had just taken a job with State Farm and leaving my position at Free Star Bank. My manager at the time was happy and sad.…

Despite my mother’s abomination towards anything related to forensics, because of-you know-the study of crime, guns, horrific injuries, and dead people is a little shocking, I was drawn towards it after lazily reading Wikipedia articles about it. Being an inquisitive and analytical person, my eyes had lit up reading those internet pages and forensics had caught my attention. Wanting to learn more, I asked my health science teacher about a possible way for me to pursue my interest through my school’s medical club, HOSA. It was an unexpected coincidence when she told me a competitive event was offered in forensic science; I immediately grabbed the opportunity and over the course of many months, studied the ins and outs of my forensics textbook in preparation for the competition.…
