Looking back, be it in my visits to my grandparents’ house, or in my hospitalization for a suicide attempt two years ago, the situation I was in could have been much different if not for the nurses that treated me. Those nurses, filled with compassion and a love for their jobs, changed my life significantly. I also have a number of close friends and family who are nurses and I have seen the impact they have made on other people’s lives as well. With their help and the grace of God, I discovered that I wanted to challenge myself while helping a variety of people from different walks of life as a nurse. My grandfather had heart disease and various other health conditions, so as his condition worsened, my aunt hired a nurse to assist him until his death in 2011. A few years later, my grandmother, who had diabetes, moved in with my aunt in El Paso, Texas. The nurse who helped my grandfather was extremely helpful, so my aunt hired her again to assist her. I remembered feeling so helpless and disappointed that my loved ones were afflicted with these health conditions, but very comforted that the nurse was there to help. I want to be able to provide that level of care that puts the patient and their family at ease, no matter what may ail them. …show more content…
I felt that the world was a cruel and unforgiving place that did not care about me until I met Kelly and Gary, two nurses among various others who loved their jobs. My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. My nursing practice still holds true to the main reason that I chose to become a nurse, which was because I have an overwhelming love and compassion for helping others in their time of need. It warms my heart to know that I made a difference in someone else’s life by just sitting down and allowing them to talk without interruption. Making patients feel better by giving them a bath with dignity and privacy, or getting them fresh ice water are just little things and may not matter to one person but may be everything to another. According to (Crosta, 2015), Nurses strive to achieve the best possible quality of life for their patients, regardless of disease or disability. When writing my goals in Transition to Professional Nursing, my two years goals were to finish my RN-BSN.…

Scraping your knee on the sidewalk, getting hit hard with the basketball, falling off the monkey bars, these are just a few examples of ways you can get hurt at school. The worst case scenario is you would end up going to the school nurse as a result of an accident. Before first grade, suffering an injury was way out of the norm for me. The only time I got hurt in first grade, I bypassed the school nurse and went straight to the hospital. It was a scalding August afternoon, and I just finished another tiring day of first grade.…

Transitioning from an LVN to a Registered Nurse When I was in school to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse, I had not planned to continue on to become a Registered Nurse. I felt that being a LVN was going to be enough. The truth is that I was afraid of the responsibilities that being a Registered Nurse carries. Once I started working I saw that the Registered Nurses on my unit were responsible for a set of patients just like I was. At the time I could only see small differences in what they were doing and what I was doing.…

I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas; my environment shaped me to become someone responsible, an over achiever, and a determined young man. The people who had the biggest impact on me is the woman who gave me life, my father, and my community. My mother was already there for me even before I stared walking, she was there to comfort me when I fell on my knees. She was my first teacher, the one who taught me morals and set up my standards; whenever we had a family party and all of our thirty members were together, she will make me introduce and address myself to every single one and if ever forgot to say hi to someone she will just give me a look to make realize my mistake, and I will immediately go on to that person and say sorry for…

This is a question that I have been asked many times in my life. I have thought about my answer on numerous different occasions and over the years my reasoning has never changed. I am 20 years old, and the story of me arriving into this world is memorable and a part of why I have chosen to become a nurse. My mother went into labor at 26 week and they told her to be prepared, as the likelihood of me surviving being born that early was not good. I, however, held on for eight more weeks and was born at 34 weeks.…
