Growing up in a single-parent household I knew it that it would not be easy to get into my dream school without having the required ACT score or high GPA. When I first took the ACT I received a 15 as my composite score, which I knew would not get me into my dream school. As I mentioned, I strived and was determined to get my ACT score to a high enough score where I could attend a decent school. After taking this standardized test six times, my score went from a 15 to a 20. But not only was my ACT score low, my GPA was not good enough either. I still needed to come up with thousands of more dollars to get my foot in the door at a university. I am now left with the choice of taking out a student

Attending college is now commonplace thanks to parents, teachers, and advisors instilling in children at a young age that they have to go to a four-year college if they want a good, stable job. While this is good because it promotes higher education, it also limits the options that high school seniors think about. “By 2020, 65 percent of all jobs in the economy will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school.” (Carnevale, 2014).
