Personal Narrative-The Northern Invasion

Improved Essays
Northern Invasion was the time of my life. I haven’t stopped thinking about how awesome it was even though it was a couple months ago in May. There were forty bands over the course of two days and of course I tried to see as many as I could. I still can’t believe I actually saw some of my most favorite bands. Here are some stories about what it was like during four of those bands. One of the first bands of the day that I loved was Asking Alexandria. They were playing at the third stage which was to the right of the main stage. When we walked over there after Payable On Death (P.O.D) there had to be at least 300 people waiting for the band to walk out on the stage. My mom and I tried to get closer to the stage but there were too many people and we didn’t want to be rude so we stopped. We were in an ok spot, but it would have been nice to be closer. The Asking Alexandria walked onto the stage about fifteen minutes later after we got there.
“Every breath you take, I watch you slip away! You’re slowly killing yourself! I WON’T GIVE IN!” We were all screaming, yelling, or singing the lyrics to “ I Won’t Give In” with Denis the lead singer. Later during “A Prophecy” I was singing along and all of a sudden a crowd surfer fell on me. On his way down he accidentally kicked me in

Since there were openings in the crowd we got be about twenty feet from the stage. The stage had the drum set that belongs to Matt and the keyboard that Jordan plays. Behind those there were these poles that I later found out were like screens for lyrics and videos. Everyone was screaming with excitement as Oli, Matt, Jordan, Lee, and Matt all came out onstage. There was a lot of pushing and shoving because people were trying to push forward to closer the stage. My mom yelled into my ear from behind me,” The pushing and shoving is going to get worse, do you still want to stay

We were going to hear them sing, to us, and it was amazing. When you think about seeing someone in concert you think about someone you have been dying to see. The night before we left for Shakopee, I studied the bands, what kind of music they played and what they sounded like. Very few of them became favorites, as I am very picky the kind of music I listen to. I was scared because I was still fairly new to this, but by the end of the night I wasn’t scared…

Although the band is known for the neo soul sound, with soft instruments and strong vocals, the whole crowd was into the act. You could not help, but tap your foot and sway your head. There was not much tension from song to song, since the songs are very mellow and chill, but during the last song the audience could get a sense of release. During the song, “Girl,” Syd Bennett held on extra long to some notes and you can feel the release of tension, and proudness of her gender. Many people from the audience applauded for her braveness of the ongoing issue in society.…

Stage lights were dimmed, and house lights brightened, yet the crowd remained unmoved, singing in unison an unceasing refrain. Stu Larsen had long since left the stage after concluding his third encore at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon. Two weeks prior, at Fordham University, Jiawei Yan, Kenneth Liao, and Yihui Liu took a bow as their audience of thirty-some undergraduate students fled the University Church. From start to finish the juxtaposition between the modern “Singer/Songwriter” and the Juilliard graduate students’ performance was conspicuous. The gap between each concert’s venue, audience, and etiquette were ways away from one another, yet some thread binds these two opposing experiences together.…

When I went to see the international spelling bee I expected what you would of some run down high school version of a play. At my school we didn’t really have a vast drama club so my expectations were sort of low for this piece. It was kind of like when you go to attend a film in theatres you see all of these commercials and then attend the movie to just rewatch the key parts that they already presented to you in the commercial. One does not have this with live theatre I did not know what to expect. I had not heard anything about the play besides that it was extra credit.…

I tapped my pencil against the wooden desk, anxiously staring down the clock. The end of the day could not come quick enough. All I wanted was for it to be 8:00 PM. Fast forward to around six hours later, I was in a large crowd of people, all of whom were way too close for comfort, and my neck was dotted with sweat. There were at least 200 people in the small area that is referred to as the ‘pit’.…

Since I was a Excision fan before the concert and a fan of everyone else I knew most of the music all the Djs played. It didn’t make it any less fun though because most of the songs had twists to them and had different drops then the original song. We didn’t stay until the music stopped, we left a couple minutes early to beat the crowd out and the traffic. On the way home we listened to chillstep so our ears in pain from the loud music would be at ease. It was an experience I will never forget.…

When I started the search for an interesting subject to do my fieldwork on, I found it a challenge to overcome scheduling obstacles and still find something that would suit my fancy. After I finally found an event, I thought about what my topic would be and became extremely overwhelmed when searching for a theme that is intriguing while also giving a new perspective to what some would call basic observations of a live performance. With that said, I found it immensely relieving when I began to take field notes and quickly detected a pattern among spectators that grasped my curiosity. My event was a live rock and roll musical performance by the band “Finish This” that took place at approximately nine o’clock on Saturday, November 26th in the…

In life there are many situations you come across where you must decide whether to stay quiet or speak up. Most of the times I decide to stay quiet and turn the other cheek, but during the summer I decided to step out of my comfort zone. In April my boyfriend bought us tickets to go to the Ohana Music Festival in Dana Point California. This was the present he gave me for our three year anniversary and it was the best thing that anyone has ever given me. I was extremely excited because my all-time favorite singer, Lana Del Rey was going to perform.…

The live performance I attended took place at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida on November 20. This place is well known for its nightlife scene and endless entertainment options and live concerts, however this specific night something major was about to happen for all of us from the Cuban community. It was the first time that young Cuban musicians from different musical backgrounds, would come to U.S and offer a huge concert, all together on the same scenario. There was a lot of anticipation and expectation for this specific event in the Cuban community and of course I joined a group of friends and bought tickets to be part of this memorable event. There is an assumption that Cuban musicians are not successful out of Cuba, and I am not referring to traditional musicians and Cuban music like Benny More, Celia Cruz, or Chucho…
