Personal Narrative: The New World Of Technology

Decent Essays
Instead of being locked within the world of technology, I’d rather be free to experience the world around me. Technology gives us promises of granting us love and experiences while taking much of it away. I’d rather spend time with my friend or family. I’d rather spend the time learning. I’d rather spend the time loving. When I wake up in the morning and feel the sun on my face it’s not from my screens wallpaper. When I have my most memorable conversations it’s not on a social media landscape. This new world, much like the wild west, is dangerous and unrestricted but also priming with opportunity. We need to find a way to best use technology, but also understand that the best parts of life are find outside of the data walls that we have built

Imagine being able to attend a UC school with all these activities and posters around you that include some of your interests and hobbies. However you fail to notice them because of the colored pixelated screen you’re eyes are so glued onto while walking through campus. As a result, you missed the karaoke night poster, in other words, an opportunity to make your first group of friends on campus. What society doesn’t understand is that the gift, life, could be so adventurous and thrilling without the manmade screen in front of our face. Therefore allowing technology to have even one minute of our day leads to an opportunity missed or adventure thrown away in the real…

The article “Head in the (Instagrammed) Clouds,” written by Isabel H. Evans, reminds us that life should not be controlled by technology. To introduce her idea, Evans talks about our necessity to get likes and shares on our posts and comments to make ourselves feel loved and warm. Next, Blackwell explained how we justify spending time plugged in because we either want to avoid doing something we don't like or we are trying to pass the time. Blackwell concludes by stating that we need to refocus our efforts on gaining accomplishments in real life that we can physically touch and see rather than attaining accomplishments through our…

When I grow up, I want to change the world! Changing the world one day would make me feel really good. Three ways I would change the world are: make sure everyone has a shelter to live in; help more lost, sick, and hurt animals, and make sure no one is hungry. I would like to help homeless people have a nice place to stay. When I’m driving downtown I see a lot of homeless people on the streets; dirty, and sad.…

“Alright now Skin, I need you to be my leadoff here and get a rally going!” I do not respond, because I obviously know how important this one at bat is for the team and for myself. One thing coach loves doing, making sure I know how much I am accountable for. There is no comment to explain to me of how dependent I am on these upcoming moments for the team, so don’t make it any worse. To start off and to have the power to set the tone of the whole inning.…

The smell of hairspray, hair wax, and burning hair at 4:30 AM isn’t pleasant to most people but to me, it’s one of my favorite things to wake-up to. We had already made it through semi-finals and now we are in about to preform in finals. Only 8 teams make it to finals, and currently, we are in 7th. Smearing on foundation, patting on the blush, and bronzer, layering on the sparkly eyeshadow. Oh, and who could forget about the intensely bright red lipstick?…

I remember the day when I had the thought that would from that day on never fail to amaze me. I remember walking down Michigan Avenue in Chicago with the smell of Garrett Popcorn and sewage roaming the air. I remember seeing businessmen and business women making their way to work rolling their briefcases down the street. I remember the massive amount of tourists, including myself, stopping every five feet to take pictures of the beautiful sights of the city. I remember thinking to myself, “Why can’t these people learn how to walk in a polite and organized fashion?”…

As previously noted, many users are searching for ways to escape the hold that technology has over them. They have come to find their own approach to harmoniously living a life that incorporates technology with true togetherness and isolation. In order for the rest of society to experience this benign coexistence, we, the users of technology, must start putting increased pressure on one another to take the first step away from our computers, from our phones, or even from our robotic companions. This time separate from technology offers a rare opportunity to practice the skills that technology deprives us of. Additionally, it allows for people to experience the benefits of self-reflection and true solitude.…

A Generation Who Has Become Slaves of Technology When I was little, I used to play with marbles, dirt, and hide and seek. Now I see a generation who has submerged into what is called technology. Children cannot live without I pads, teenagers cannot be without texting or chatting, even when they are in class, and many adults have become unproductive at their workplace due to the addiction of the usage of their cellphones. I have seen families who rarely have a conversation while having a family meal because at least one of the family members is either texting, chatting on Facebook, or twitting.…

I am very excited about this because although it is possible to put OSX and Windows on the same hard drive it is difficult to do results with both operating systems having limited space. I did not want to be constantly concerned about permanent storage, which factored into my decision to purchase a new computer, which has 500 gigabytes of available storage on the hard drive. 500GB is more than I think that I will need but I would rather be safe than sorry!…

Growing up it was all about chalkboards and dry erase boards. You would have to listen to the screeching of the chalk as it hit the green tinted boards or smell the chemicals emanating from the dry erase markers. Projection boards were being installed and new software was being used like Publisher and PowerPoint.…
