Personal Narrative: The Move From Bangladesh To Canada

Decent Essays
The move from Bangladesh to Canada was not as delightful as my father had prayed it to be. There was no light at the end of the tunnel for my family. Abandoning an entire culture that my family and I was accustomed to and adapting to a new one, leaving our loved ones behind for our own happiness and leaving everything we had behind to live a life filled with bliss, was not everything that it was cut out to be. Upon our arrival only tragedies followed one after another. Our lives, especially Baba’s became a series of unfortunate events, which just never had a stop to it. We resided in a small apartment that had no heating and basically froze ourselves in the cold. A week later my mother fell very ill and was hospitalized. My father was a full

Times have been rough, but I am sure you are aware of this. I am writing to you in a time of extremely dire circumstances. During a case I was part of not too long ago a discourteous lawyer absolutely engulfed in his work decided to say such words that have lifted a forgotten sprit within me. After speaking to the Attorney General about allowing 'mixed company' to be present in cases about prostitution, I was much too overjoyed about winning that I failed to realize the many injustices that are still prevailing, ruining our fellow sisters. It is because of this reason that when I heard such infantile words come out of that lawyers mouth was I absolutely appalled.…

One of my trashes that I have to overcome was when my family came to Canada in 2010-2012 and decided to stay here, I felt quite sad and unhappy, because of leaving all of my friends and most of my relatives back in Vietnam. At school, I was not really able to make friends, since the language was the number one barrier for me at the time, and I have always thought of going back to Vietnam, which makes me not want to learn English even more. I was born as Regina Lim in San Jose, California, the first of my Cambodian immigrant family to be born in the United States of America and the oldest of three siblings. I grew up in a small townhouse with my large family on the east side of San Jose in a pretty rough neighborhood where there was frequent gang activity. For most of my early life, I was raised by my grandparents because my parents had me at a fairly young age and were both busy with either work or school, and sometimes both. Although my grandparents were the ones raising me for the beginning stages of my childhood, they were also occupied most of the time doing what they could to help support our family so I had to learn independence early in life. Learning how to become independent at a young age contributed to me being able to leave home when I was 19 years old.…

It was 25 years ago I first time designed a furniture set for a 100 ft2 bedroom. I draw floor plans for the room, furniture draft for workers, which includes storage bed, night stand, closet, desk and a chest with 5 drawers by hand. I still remember the stunned faces while my friends first time visit my home in China, 15 years ago, by seeing my open kitchen, glass wall separator and crimson couches in front a green wall. 7 years ago, I immigrated to Canada. I was more than happy to live in a house, which meant I had more space to design, to decorate.…

"Adversities can foster hope, and resilience. " This quote can be applied to many people's lives; points in their lives where they put out their best when they are faced with great challenges. I can apply this quote to my immigration from Kyrgyzstan to America. The reason I am describing this point in my life with this quote is because of the different adversities that have come with assimilating into a whole a new culture, country, and people. I first left for America with my family nearly a decade ago.…

Canada is known as a country where dreams come true, it is a land of opportunity; this is a phrase I frequently heard while growing up in India, and thus, like any child would, I believed it to be the truth. Ever since I was a youngster, I had made my studies my number one priority because I thought this was the only way I would be able to fulfill my dream to study abroad, specifically Canada. Little did I know then that this fantasy of mine would actually turn into reality. On December 15th, by noon, the news was confirmed that I would be going to Canada on a study basis. I remember I was playing cricket in the local park when I received a phone call from my sister.…

My families’ migration story dates back to three generations. My great-grandfather came to the United States for the first time through the Bracero Program; a program that “brought millions of Mexican guest workers to the United States [which] grew out of a series of bilateral agreements between Mexico and the United States short-term, from 1942 to 1964.” Unfortunately, my great-grandfather passed away a while back when I was very young, therefore, for this assignment, I decided to acknowledge my parents’ migration story, a story that relies on a series of events that tore our family apart but simultaneously brought us closer together. I interviewed my mother and my father regarding, their own individual migration stories while also focusing…

It is a beautiful Sunday morning and my mother and I sit outside on the balcony to enjoy the last summer days. The atmosphere is relaxed and I have prepared breakfast for us - two big cups of coffee with milk and a tray of fresh fruit. I personally always considered being able to travel a lot one of the greatest privileges in life, and as the sun peeks through the clouds and the wind rustles through the trees it reminds me of all the different places I have yet to visit. My mother shares my passion for traveling and has traveled to several places. However, her most memorable traveling experience is when she was 20 years old and decided to work as an au pair in Toronto,Canada. ”…
