As I soaked into the hospital bed, chained onto various machines unknown to me of their purpose. I glared at the ceiling fan above me; watching the blades circle in motion, as time continued to pass. Before a bad stomach ache became stabbing pain and a deadly fever, I consulted with many puzzled pediatric doctors. They drew the diagnosis that my sickness was an infection by the “Mono” Virus. Mononucleosis, also called the “kissing disease”, is a common sickness in young adults spread through fluid in the oral cavity. “Mom, do you any updates on what’s going on?” I said to my mother in loose breaths. “Jonah, I have no idea. Constantly, I’ve been questioning every doctor I come in contact with and they all have the same response. I’m withholding that I am a nurse because the physicians may feel threatened with my medical knowledge. But, I am almost certain that you don’t have Mono.” She said in an assertive whisper. Suddenly, I began to get better and regain a stable health. The physicians at the hospital all gawked at the sudden rise in my health. After three weeks of battling sickness and constant confusion, I was discharged from the hospital. Over the duration of the month, my recovery went very well. I had the ability take final exams missed at school and it felt like the “virus” I had was history. My mother got a phone call from a physician associated with the hospital I was treated at, “Hello Mrs. Johns, this is Mindy Nygeun with UT Physicians. I’m calling in concern of your son Jonah.
