The Moment When I Shot My First Deer It was a brisk October morning at my house. The temperature was 51 degrees and the wind was headed to the south. Which was a perfect wind to hunt the stand we had hung the week before. It was my first time ever going out on a youth hunt, which at 9 years old was pretty exciting. As my brother and I started walking into the woods, I started feeling nervous and a little excited. As soon as we entered into the woods I started to notice the sun slowly poking through the thick canopies of the trees and I knew that we needed to hurry up and get to the stand. When we get to the stand, I start to climb up the freezing cold metal rungs of the ladder. When I got to the top of the stand I remember thinking it was so high up, but it was only about 13 feet above the ground. My brother handed me the gun, which was really cold and really heavy. The sounds were of deer stomping and grunting, it sounds like they were chasing each other around. My brother told me to get the gun ready and to stay super quite and not say a word. Then this doe comes flying down the hill and about gave me a heart attack, at this point my adrenaline rushing super fast and I could barely sit still. I start shaking when I see this basket rack 7 point come down the hill. The gun starts clinging against the metal bar on the stand and I thought that the buck would surely run away.
I get my scope and crosshairs directly on the deer, and my heart was pounding out of my chest. I get my safety turned off and I asked my brother if I could shoot. He said wait for it to stop and then shoot. He told me that I have plenty of time, but I had to make a Quick/ Clean/ Kill. I took a deep breath put my crosshairs right behind his left shoulder where his heart is and squeezed the trigger. The gun goes off with a loud bang and I see the deer kick, which means that it was a really good
