The long journey to California
It's 6:00 am, and we are loading the car to go to California. We’re on our way to my aunts to pick her up before we leave town. We’re on the freeway just about getting to Blackfoot and it's barely light outside. There wasn't very many cars out because it was so early. It’s about 8:45 when we hit the border between Idaho and Utah. we are just eating snacks for breakfast and i'm watching the lines go bye on the road one by one because i was bored.
About 9:30 when we stopped at the gas station to get breakfast. I asked my dad, “will you get me a mtn dew please?”
“Yes,” my dad answered.
When we got deeper into Utah it started to get super windy, so we had to pull over. We waited about 15 minutes and then we started

As we were traveling down the back roads to Le Mars, Iowa we went through so many small towns that I didn’t even know existed. My grandma, cousin, and aunt had so much fun in the car, playing games, doodling, and singing. We went by this small town that only had like 8 houses. As we got closer and closer we all were so happy to taste the fresh ice cream. When we arrived to the blue bunny museum I looked at my cousin Randi and said “ Omg I can’t wait! ”…

    1. I grew up in San Francisco in an area where the majority of residents had lives there for generations. In my building all of my neighbors were older than my parents and a few were even older than my grandparents. Mrs. Garcia was a woman who lived in the apartment under us. She was in her 90s and had lost most of her hearing by the time I was eight…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

A universal theme for me moving from Texas to California is overcoming. I was 8 years old when my family moved, and had to overcome knowing no one, a new school, and being out of my comfort zone. At this age you tend to start making good friends, all hang out in groups, and be less adventurous. My parents kept saying, “Find people who like the same things as you, and everything else will be easy”. The next week I did just that.…

We were all ready for (hopefully) the best trip of our lives. We set out to experience an adventure even if it meant a long drive to our final destination. People everywhere go through various experiences in their lives. Whether these experiences are big or small, they affect us in some way. The results of these experiences can be good or bad, or a little bit of both, but either way they shape our lives. The biggest life experience I’ve ever gone through is my move to California. I remember the day I return to the United States from China at the age 6. I grew up being immersed with English in which consequently made me forgotten most of my Chinese. Before I even noticed, I had hard time communicating with my mother and grandmother. I took the first year level Chinese course at my last college in hope to better communicate with my parents, however, it was not enough. Every time we try to have a conversation, Google Translate would accompany us.…

I had a really exciting childhood in Sacramento; my family loved to travel and see new places but there is no place like home. There was always something to do I do not recall ever having a dull moment. Ordinary school days most of my time was spent outside at the park or playing video games inside with friends. On weekends my mother would travel the Northern Coast weather it be shopping in San Fransisco or visiting Six Flags in Vallejo. My favorite part was getting amazing fresh eats from street vendors; Gult was a super popular farmers market with some of the best street food from all walks of the world.…
