Personal Narrative: I Am A Dog

My heart was racing as rattling chains came closer and closer. The creature flew across my vision, right behind the wooden fence. What is happening? I thought to myself. It was as if a mad scientist’s monster had broken free and was going to break through the barrier between us any second. White daggers shone through the slits in the fence and were replaced by a dark mass the next second. Its sounds were unlike anything I’ve ever heard before; deep, explosive cries and long wails echoed across the open neighborhood. But in that moment, it felt like I was trapped, confined. A sign hung next to my head that read “BEWARE OF DOG”. I thought to myself, this is a dog? This ferocious beast was supposed to be the sweet, family-friendly, cuddling animal …show more content…
My mom was a dog groomer and shop owner at the time, and I ended up working for her as a dog bather because I couldn’t get a job anywhere else. First day on the job, I walked in and was greeted by loud barks in the back; some were tiny squeaks, some were deep howls. I grabbed the tiny dog that I was scheduled to groom and headed to the back. It was about as big as the two that my mom brought home that one day, and I was reluctant to wash it. When I finished, the dog turned out to actually be very cute to me. It was nothing like the two rowdy dogs that tore up the house, or the calm first dog I had; it was its own dog. I walked out from the back and was greeted by three more dogs on the grooming tables. One was lashing out and flipping everywhere while the groomer went to grab a muzzle; the second one was a little hyper but sweet nonetheless, trying to lick the groomer; the third was calm and collected, standing like a statue letting itself be groomed. All of these observations made me realize that I should give dogs a try rather than jump to conclusions about what they should be. In the end, I realized that all I needed was an open mind or else dogs wouldn’t be one of my favorite animals

I felt the temperature drop from the tropical heat to a cold breeze in the area we were going to stop; a trickle of water running down a wall in the new area fell into the silence with an ominous manner. Then a sudden splash of water soaked the group ahead of ours and masked an object with heavy steps that darted out. “Garahhhaka,” the same hair-lifting tone that had massacred the field of people shrieked. The creature was hungry and had been hunting us all the way.…

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…

So a couple of weeks ago I was at a horse show, and keep in mind, horse show people are the most extra group of people I've ever known in my life. A lot of people bring their dogs to these shows, and on this specific day someone had brought their little fluffball. So obviously, I was obligated to pet it because it's law that you have to pet the tiny fluffy thing, and then his owner, completely unsolicited, goes "ah yes, this is Francois. He’s a Meagle-poo". First of all, who names their dog Francois?…

A dog is something I had wanted for majority of my life, I wanted a companion that loved me so much that he would risk his own life for mine.
