The Crevasse “Adversity is the source of our deepest growth and greatest blessings; embrace it, dare to seek It,” that was a quote from Aron Ralston, who fell down a crevasse and his arm was wedged under a rock, which inspired the movie “127 Hours.” One day I was going to the creek with my friends, Matthew and Kendal, to hang out. We had this amazing spot that had a bridge that we made and everything. We were bringing further supplies to add on to the spot and make it look more visually appealing. When we arrived at the park we brought all of the supplies down under a bridge.…
It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…
On August 2nd, 1941 First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt wrote this quote in her daily newspaper column, “My Day.” In the thick of World War II Roosevelt’s quote inspired many as they fought through their hardships. People learn from doing. We maintain the values that our role models instill in us, but as we gain experience, we fashion our own beliefs. A mirror of this in my life is my work with the organization Soles for Jesus.…
The wind whistles. The owl hoots. The cricket chirps. The fan next to my bed spins on and on forever. While lying in my bed, I begin thinking about people I know and begin questioning why people talk the way they talk and act the way they act.…
I find myself fascinated listening to this man. I sit here amongst a crowd of hundreds of men, women, and children. We are all amazed at the knowledge that he speaks. The man changes his tone and compares himself the bread that fell from heaven and the water that came from the rock. The rabbi next to me is angrily talking to me as if I did something wrong.…
Many people don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up”, as for my mother she didn’t know what type of religion she wanted to be in when she “grew up”. However, she did know the basics that she believed in which was God, the Holy Spirit, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Bible that being said she considered herself Christian and raised me as a Non-Denominational Christian. That was until my senior year of High School when my mom decided she no longer wanted to be part of the Non-Denominational Christian faith and switched over to becoming part of the LDS faith known as the Mormons and flipped my life upside-down with their different views of norms and values. Growing up Non-Denominational Christian is fairly simple faith and to me…
Hawaiian Punch full of Rum and something else. Boy, did I have one hell of a hangover the following day! Another guy walked into the barracks later that afternoon and asked if anyone wanted to rent motorbikes and drive over to Phoenix City, Alabama (which was considered to be the danger zone). Deciding to get out for a while, we went to the bus stop and took a ride to the bike rental shop in downtown Columbus, Georgia. Taking off over the bridge to Alabama to see what all the fuss was about, we ended up at the bars in ‘Combat Alley’ We checked them out just long enough to get an idea that the area was no big deal, before deciding to ride back to downtown Columbus, feeling a little better on the return trip.…
I received a photo the other day in my email. A photo of an image that seems to have a face materialize in the smoke of a cigarette. So I sent a message back to the owner “Andy” for permission to use the photo in a story and a little info about the photo. He replied, giving permission to use the photo and stated that the photo was of his brother Ron and himself.…
“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Proverbs 18:15 (ESV). ” That’s one of my favorite bible verses. I use the book of Proverbs as a lifeguard.…
I have heard your pleas and am pleased to hear about your pursuit of religion. While I would be gladly willing to give you that opportunity, I cannot. I have heard from some of your fellow voyagers of your tyranny actions while exploring throughout these newly found lands. I am happy to hear of your success in finding lands, but I am not glad to hear about the way you have treated their people. The goal was to discover new places, not to ruin them.…
In the Thirteenth Station, Jesus is taken off the cross after all the suffering he went through and is laid into Mother Mary’s arms. It is the first time Mary has her son Jesus in her hands since he was condemned. This station connects to my life as it reminds me of the time when I first saw my grandfather after his eyes closed for the last time and he entered the Kingdom of God with the Lord. My dad had picked us up from school and said we had an important family gathering that day. After setting our bags down at our house, we went straight to the church in Oakland to gather as a family one last time with our grandfather.…
It all ended on a Monday in Utah at exactly 7:15 pm. When I describe myself as a white haired, red eyed, and average weight and height 15 year old people think I'm albino. Its actually the opposite I'm a bit tanned in fact. Well after deciding to walk around the park for ten minutes I decided to go home. By then it was 7:10 pm and after walking for another five minutes I took a breather.…
We sat in the viewing room funeral parlor, my little cousin Georgie and I. Staring, waiting, watching the old man laid out before us. He hadn’t always been that still. He used to be so full of life, so energetic, so animated, so boisterous. The funeral director greeted us solemnly with a kiss to the cheek. The kiss stung as Judas’ must have upon Jesus’ cheek.…
On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…
That night I met the pastor and one of the elders from the deliverance team at her home. We had previously set up a time to meet with the deliverance team things were hectic for most of them everyone could not meet that night. The pastor stepped out of the room for a minute and the elder began to pray for me. As he began praying about my childhood, curses, soul ties and other things something broke inside me and I started crying like a baby and did not stop until I was empty, so to speak. The pastor was back in the room at that point she began to pray and talk to me about what she was doing and what she was going to do.…
