Personal Narrative: The Last Game Of Soccer

Improved Essays
When I was eight-ish years old, I played soccer for the villa rica recreational department. We had a game, it was the last game of the season, it was the championship game. We played against a team called “The cougars” and By the end of the game our two teams were tied at 2-2; The game went into overtime. The referees decided that the game would end with a PK shootout. I was chosen as the goalie for my team, and my friend, Will, was the shooter (but he’s not important). The teams flipped a coin to see who would shoot first, surely enough, our team went first. Me and the other goalie were almost the same when it came to skill, so I wasn’t surprised when he caught the first ball. Then it was my turn to block the ball. The referee blew his whistle

The loud sound of the referee's whistle finally came and the game started. Halfway through the first half of the game my teammate Danielle passed me the ball. The other teams player came for me, she was one of their really good players so I thought I would never be able to pass her. As she approached me I stopped and pulled the ball back as she tried to get it from me.…

    1. The field was hardly a field- grass only grew in disconnected patches and the ground was unleveled- there was no equipment, no coaches, only a group of ten-year-old boys staring directly at me. The leaders and soccer balls were nowhere to be found, yet I- the one who had not played organized soccer or more like organized bench sitting since eight grade- had to think of how I could lead a soccer practice for ninety minutes. I needed to be creative.…

Throughout my short life journey, soccer has been an enormous part of my life. I began playing soccer at a young age; this is the point in my life when I fell in love with the sport. As I grew older soccer became less of a hobby, and more of a lifestyle. Today, I am literate in the sport of soccer, because I have proficient skills, and a firm understanding of the game. I consider myself very soccer savvy, however the most important literacies I have acquired from soccer were the life skills of hard work, dedication and perseverance.…

Growing up and playing soccer my entire life, I can personally explain to anyone how difficult the game really is. However, when I step on the soccer field Saturday mornings to volunteer, I know the players participating have a set of unique challenges that make their accomplishments truly extraordinary. That's because every Saturday I volunteer at the nonprofit organization RVACCESS, which helps provide special needs athletes the opportunity to play soccer. I first found out about the program four years ago and was amazed at what a difference it made for the athletes and their parents.…

Clichés seem to always crowd the mind whenever we try to speak meaningfully about the things we love. In particular, the beautiful game of soccer always seems to mock our efforts to describe its genuine beauty. Nothing in the world could ever match the enjoyment of playing soccer. Both mentally and physically. Whenever you play, you can't help but feel the individual nerves tingle throughout your body along with the adrenaline coursing through your blood stream.…

My soccer team was together for a very long time and we were all great friends. As we kept getting older we needed more girls to have enough to play and they always fit right in with us and got to know us very well. That changed this fall when the team split. None of us were happy, at least six or seven girls quit playing soccer and I was one of them. A few girls went to different clubs but the rest went to CBSC ( Council Bluffs Soccer Club) but I didn’t because I’m not a big fan of soccer anymore. After getting hurt all the times I did in soccer I realized that it's not worth it if you’re going to be out for a third of the season and if your injury makes you miss out on other sports.…

Day and night, I devoted my free time to get better at soccer. Thus, improving my kicks, accuracy, speed, stamina, and strength. I was never capable to kick a ball further than 20 feet so I created strategies to help me build strength on my legs. For example, in my back yard I would stand a few feet away from the brick, aim to a certain brick I’d like to kick the ball to, if I hit the brick I then would step a few steps back and repeat. I practiced for about 6 months straight after the season was over; I was determined to make it to varsity my junior year.…

It’s not often I anticipate letters in the mail, but this was how our school notified students of varsity sports tryout results. Our school fields highly competitive teams in all sports and soccer ranks as one of the most difficult teams to make. Thirty of my classmates were in the same situation, waiting on the same day at their mailboxes. My heart raced when I found “Riley Bonifer” in the middle of that envelope and the school address in the corner. My hands shook as I peeled back the flap for the good news.…
