Do you want to know how I grew up from a small town in Iowa to the best football player and coach? When I was about 8 I started playing football. I was the best linebacker in high school and college football. I was the 1st, 1st round pick in the NFL draft. Retired and became the best football coach in history.…
‘Your smallest victories look like mountains, but your defeats look like deep valleys. Everything is exaggerated.’ It’s hard enough for any player when he fails on the field. But as the first Korean or Indian player, there would always be an added layer of pressure (or fifty). When you don’t succeed, you can easily feel like you’re not only letting yourself down but also an entire nation” (Bernstein 149).…
i thought to myself “whatever happens, happens just give 110%.” in the first half nothing really excited happened but the score was 3-1 we were losing! i could see on my teammates face they were all really mad, i was really mad too. but then i assisted one of my teammates and then she made a beautiful top right goal.…
And I've even sat down and cried. In frustration, happiness, and just because that was the only thing I could think to do. But no matter what the situation, I always had my friends to cheer me up, my coaches to tell me beat them next time, and my parent to tell me to suck it up and win the next match. I've had a lot of success while under the guidance of my coaches; Coach Davis, Coach Marko, Coach Hill and Coach Leon. I’ll never keep any of the glory for myself, I owe everything to them, my parents, and my teammates.…
Then I turned my back to her and push her out of the way with my body and turned around her. The sound of people screaming my name suddenly started. " WOOOOOO GO ALANA YESSSSSS!!!!! " I kept running towards the goal, in my head, I said to myself " This is my moment, I'm going to make this goal " I remember all the times I have failed trying to make a goal, the thoughts haunted my mind as I was running. The closer I got to the goal the more screaming and shouting I…
We began to train even harder, disregarding the swelling on our knees and ankles, tasting the conviction and persistence in the training court shared by all. Meanwhile, I watched professional soccer games, read coaching books every night and observed the training of our rival team, and tried to think of a good strategy. My research drove me to play a direct counter attack style to win the games. In the final team meeting before the big game, I presented my strategy, and convinced them that every individual’s potential is indeed unlimited, especially when they focus on their goal and work together. If the whole team believed in each other and fight to the end, we could change a failure to a victory.…
The Central High School soccer team would make history in the season 2013-2014, and not one single person expects it. In the season there were only three more crucial games left before the big decisive game. Central prepared diligently, even staying after practice to ensure we were all ready for the biggest game in the soccer’s program, against our biggest rival, Smiths Station. While both Central and Smiths believed that they were ready to come off of that green soccer field with a victory, Central focused more on playing fundamentally and Smiths Station was worried about playing elaborate. Game day has finally came, the entire team felt so anxious that our bodies were shaking uncontrollably in nerves.…
I was exhausted but I told myself I can’t let my teammate down and myself too. So I scored the ball before the buzzer. This was my first won and wasn’t our last. After that game I saw how hard it…
In lieu of letting the new players struggle with learning technical skills, I and a few other veteran team members taught the new players the fundamentals of soccer. Through weeks of training and weekend practices we all began to see growth in our new team. From this moment I knew my hard work was beginning to pay off. We endured many discouraging losses from the first few games; which turned a lot of heads in my direction. But we slowly bonded as a team and learned how to play together which showed on the scoreboard.…
Desperate to play, I followed his advice, alienating team members along the way while I gave 110% in practice, refusing to give them the free pass they thought they deserved. When I finally got to take the field in a game that was already out of reach, I didn’t roll over like most of my team; instead I exploded onto the field. It gave my game a whole new depth of emotion. I intimidated the other team purely through the determination that I channeled, and my knowledge of that fact stirred an entirely new sensation within my chest.…
Throughout my short life journey, soccer has been an enormous part of my life. I began playing soccer at a young age; this is the point in my life when I fell in love with the sport. As I grew older soccer became less of a hobby, and more of a lifestyle. Today, I am literate in the sport of soccer, because I have proficient skills, and a firm understanding of the game. I consider myself very soccer savvy, however the most important literacies I have acquired from soccer were the life skills of hard work, dedication and perseverance.…
What once was a mere burning match, weak and fragile, has grown into a magnificent wildfire, capable of engulfing the entire planet itself in its flames. Passion. For anything imaginable, those with it can shine far brighter than any other. I’ve always envied those with something they could cling to and call their passion, never having it myself. After years of searching, it appeared.…
The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out. It’s funny really because clichés aren’t my thing, however, at times idioms are just the thing to describe a situation or time period in one’s life, for instance the saying that “life is a roller coaster” couldn’t be more fitting for my life. The ups and downs, the highs and the lows, the twists and turns, life is just one big adrenaline rush and at times I feel I’m a junking, addicted to life.…
It started at the end of 7th period . The feeling you have when you know something amazing is going to happen. As the bell rings letting us know that we need to go to the cafeteria. We walked in everyone is quiet because we are focus on one single goal to win. “Take your headphones off”,Coach says to us.…
