The humidity was crazy and we were located in northern region of Texas. I can only imagine what you go through down there in the southern region of Texas. I currently live in Georgia and I must say the humidity here is bearable. This past summer was not bad at all, besides the pollen, I really enjoyed it and all of the other seasons. I can honestly say, I get to experience almost every season to the fullest unlike other regions of the United States. Although, there is one thing about Georgia I am not fond of, the Kudzu Vine. The Kudzu Vine is an

The Hunted I didn’t know who I was. I woke up next to a bunch of muddy kids. They all smelled like they haven't showered in weeks. There was two twins, a chubby kid, and probably the skinniest kid I’ve ever seen. Then I realized I smelled just like them.…

Through the years, I have moved to almost 3 culturally different countries, my experiences have been nothing less of hectic. From changing to country to country to school to school. I have be-friended people from all around the world and have managed to gather a few bits and pieces from each of their cultures. It is so fascinating finding out about traditions around the world. To strive in a multi-cultural atmosphere would obviously be tough, but I have thankfully done it more than once.…

I've always loved different cultures and tried to surround myself in as many as possible however I could. This was usually me trying to learn on my own from the internet, music and movies, but I was still missing that X factor that really made me indulge in other cultures. As soon as I walked onto Swarthmore's campus I felt that X factor. Sitting in the info session and taking the tour, I truly felt at home. The small diverse campus allows for people of completely different backgrounds and cultures to have real relationships that they might not have even noticed anywhere else in the world.…

When our friends invited my hubby and me to the movies for New Year’s Eve, we weren’t sure we were up for the adventure. After a beautiful Christmas season, we were tired, but regardless of our weariness we agreed to go. They reserved tickets to the movie, Fences, which I had vaguely heard of. I knew Denzel Washington starred in it, but nothing more. To be honest, I struggled with this movie.…

I was busily working at school on a Friday when I heard some stunning news: the President of the United States, Barack Obama, would be coming to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska. “Have you heard Obama is coming to Kotzebue in a few weeks?” asked Mr. Gindt. My class and I were informed about the surprising news from my lively teacher during class and thought he was messing around cause he’s the type who jokes about things a lot. I didn’t think it could be true because I couldn't picture Obama being in the same little town as where I lived. I contemplated about what I heard all day and tried to process it through my head whether it was true or not.…

I should have stopped myself, but all I could think was: you will finish this, or you will die trying.…

Jealousy is just another part of everyday life. As shown in Bobbie Ann Mason 's "Being Country", the story just shows that it 's normal to be envious of others and just look at positive things in their lives while ignoring the negative things. For example, when Mason 's family was having dinner, instead of looking at it like a feast because of the plentiful food her family had. Mason looked at it as "fuel for work". Instead of always looking at the positive side, we as humans like to generate an unreasonable conclusion from what 's bad in our lives to what 's good in someone else 's.…

Gardening was a ‘forced’ hobby for a good portion of my childhood. Since elementary school, I worked with my dad in our back yard; I would dig holes, carry bags of manure, and plant flowers and trees. I complained that it would be easier to go to the store and buy a bag of blackberries instead of toiling in the sun for hours to achieve the same thing. I never imagined that I’d end up gardening for fun. Every year, my brother and I would collect the fruits of our labor; every year, I’d appreciate my efforts more and more.…
