Personal Narrative: The Kite Runner

The gun shot in the air and I ran as fast as I could. As soon as I passed the starting line, the chip on my shoe started running the clock; timing how long it would take for me to make it to the finish line. I had trained for this very day in which I would run for the half marathon. Having had run several five kilometer races I never thought I would have doubled the miles. I ran without acknowledging that I needed to pace myself because all I was focused on was trying to get to the finish line as soon as possible. I wanted to prove to my father that I could finish the half marathon. Initially, I had to ask my father if I could participate in running the half marathon but he had neglected that idea. Training for three months running seven to eight miles with my friends and teacher, who was in charge of the middle school running club, I was able to gain more endurance. Eventually after running non stop, I heard the sounds of cow bells, clapping, and whistling of supporters in front of me. …show more content…

When I got home I showed my dad the medals. One that presented that I had finished the half marathon and the other medal that showed that I placed second in my

Rhythmic staccatos of hammer drills coupled with harmonic musical accompaniment compose the symphony of the theatrical arena. Gridlocked center stage, contemplating the complexity of antibiotic resistance in petri-developed bacterial strains, my deviated attention soon becomes enveloped by the compulsory sound of the production manager calling a cast meeting. I clench my hands around a story of genuine sentiment for tradition; having spent months exploring the effect one transformative agent can bear on an entire population of nuanced individuals. I begin to reference the fundamentals of biology to incite a parallel between random mutations of bacteria and random events associated with the art of theatrical production. In the studio, I delve…

At the West Seattle Beach Run 50k yesterday, there were 23 runners. My friend, Anneke, and I were numbers 22 and 23 to cross the Finish Line. For the two of us, running 31.069 miles (an ultra-marathon) was NOT about finishing the race in a certain amount of time. It was NOT about finishing before any other people. It was NOT about running at a fast pace.…

A part of me always knew that I’d have to tell the story of the big quake- and I always hoped that I would never come to that. When it happened, my mind froze. I was sitting on my couch, reading ‘The Kite Runner’. I was trying to prepare myself psychologically to get up and knock some things off the to-do list; picking up my sister from work and before my mother got home to a house that would be hopefully clean.…

Looking back I am pretty sure I had a fever. I pushed to get myself to go to the run and do it because I worked so hard already. There was a lot of excitement and people cheering, it was interesting to run on the streets in downtown Toronto. During the race I tried to focus on myself and not to keep up to the speed of those around me. I started to run with my younger brother Jacob and then we continued at our different speeds.…

There are many runners who are new to pacing themselves and they will go out and continue hard, only to crash and burn a mile later. You need be smart about you race.…

I am not a runner. In fact, the last time I ran a mile was about three years ago in freshman P.E. class. So naturally, when my mom proposed I run a 5k, which is about three times more than what I’ve ever run before, I laughed it off and followed it with a sarcastic “Yeah… I’ll think about it.” I guess I wasn’t sarcastic enough because within a few hours I received an email from my mom that showed that I was registered and all race dues were paid for.…
