Personal Narrative: The Kennedy Space Center Simulator

Not everyone has the chance to ride the Kennedy space center simulator but my opportunity came today. No more videos, it’s going to be the actual ‘thing. We walked onto a ramp that brought us to a green screen where we obtain our picture taken, and after the ride they gave us a chance to buy the picture where they edited an orange astronaut suit on us. I continued to run up and around the twist of the ramp leaving my aunt and uncle behind me. The few people in line gathered at the top of the ramp, and the waiting time went by fast since no one wanted to stand in line.

A guy asked “Are you sure you really want to do this?” He continued talking and said our shuttle is positioned straight up so we should adjust into that position also. The simulator started moving so we sat at a 90 degree angle like our rocket. He then explained that with six seconds remaining our main engines would ignite, starting from ten the countdown “Ten.. nine.. eight.. seven.. six..” The engine started and we shook like a washing machine, it kept us hitting our heads on the back of the seat. The countdown continued “five.. four.. three.. two.. one.” Then we took off, and the force of gravity left us pinned and immobile in our seats. We continued to fly into space, a few moments later he told us that we had to drop our main engine compartment. After that went through with success, he said, “If something happened to go wrong, you wouldn’t have enough fuel to return to the Kennedy Space Center. Hopefully you like Spain because that’s where you’ll be landing, but lucky for you everything seems to be in good working condition.” When he finished talking red lights started flashing in front of us. “Spoke too soon.” He told us that our crew began working on the problem right away, and a few minutes later he said, “Lucky for you, your crew fixed the
