When we woke up, Mr. Richards was gone. He had gone without us. Even Mr. Black who also wanted to go to Fort Vancouver was supersized. No sane person would go alone. I hope he makes it, even though it's almost impossible. He seemed to be a really nice person, even though he didn’t talk very much.

We are on Barlow Road going around Mt. Hood. Our eyes are on the verge of closing and we have to watch every step or we’ll end up sliding all the way down to the bottom of this path. Surprisingly we all agreed we should go on the path in the mountains instead of going around, we only have enough food to go through the mountains. Everybody is really struggling right now. I am struggling to keep our oxen on the track, Jay was one step away from taking our whole wagon down the mountain. One of Mr. Long's mules took one wrong step and fell off of the path all the way down the mountain. Some of the Smith’s food fell out of their wagon and was ruined because it is so bumpy.
