“Let’s look at the ocean, Mary,” said Lilly excitedly.

I let myself be dragged off to the side of the ship. We were taking a cruise around Australia. The view I saw stunned me. Dolphins bouncing in and out of the water, fish in stunning oranges, yellows, and reds racing along, and a piece of land far away in the distance.

“What’s that giant dark shape under the water,” I questioned.

“Watch out!” screamed the crew, “there’s a whale heading towards the ship and she looks angry.”

I grabbed Mary and rushed to our cabin. The whale smashed into our ship multiple times. I grabbed my survival bag, made of sturdy canvas material, my mother packed for the cruise just as the ship split into two parts. We both fell into the sea as the ship broke

“Have you ever read the Island of the Blue Dolphins? The girl in the story survived on an island for a while in a cave. She made weapons and found food. Maybe we can look for a cave to live in until rescue planes come to find us.”

We both looked around the island and found three caves. One was on the far side of the island, but there were many jagged rocks and branches on the inside. We didn’t want to waste our strength moving heavy boulders and long branches. There was a cave was on the west side of the island, but that cave was too small. We couldn’t even stand up in it. There was not enough room for two people. The third cave was near the beach and near a lake of fresh water. We both agreed that the third cave was the best because we could go to the lake anytime we wanted and drink water without walking a long distance. Nearby, we found some palm tree leaves which were slightly large and a deep green color. We put the leaves on the cave floor to make a bed. Then, I opened the survival pack. I discovered that my mother packed several aluminum cooking pots for us to cook in. They were all different sizes. My mother also packed a razor sharp knife to cut wood and other things. She also packed a knife sharpener. She also packed a first aid kit with bandages and medicines for fevers. Best of all, she packed three books of
