Personal Narrative: The Importance Of Living In A Sorority House

Improved Essays
Living in a sorority house with forty-six girls can get messy. It is a lot to keep up with and manage, and I can’t imagine how our house mom, Irene sleeps at night. Irene has a high-stress personality, and gets very frazzled when things are out of place. The other night our snack room and dining room was very messy. Instead of Irene having to beg girls to help her clean it up, I decided to take the initiative and clean the tables, sweep the floors, and take out the trash. Irene walked down as I was doing this and was in shock at what I was doing. She was very appreciative and could not stop thanking me. I felt very good about helping Irene and the rest of the house, personally I always feel better when things are orderly and put together. For

This was the year of 2016, and this was the year that my life changed; I was forced to grow up and learn how to be more independent. The first step to my seeking of independence was turning 16 years old and getting my driver’s license. This meant I was finally able to go out on my own and not rely on others to take me places anymore. In the year of 2016, I also began taking classes at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute to earn college credits.…

Growing up I was constantly reminded to do more than whats expected by many women in different time of my life. I often heard my teachers refer to each other sorrors and addressed jokes about the strange embroidered letters on their jackets. Being only 10 and curious, I wanted to know the significance and meaning of the strange letters and defending them was so important. The conversation grew broader than the letters. I was informed about Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and the importance of taking risk, speaking up, sisterhood, and going beyond measure to ensure the needs of other were met.…

National Honor Society has helped me develop their four pillars, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, into my daily life. To become a member, a specific GPA is required and maintained, which is more motivation to keep up academic achievement. Additionally, tutoring is a major part of our society, so having a good understanding of the subject you are tutoring in makes sure that you maintain the level of academic achievement the honor society calls for. I have always loved doing service in my community and being a member of the society has grown that passion for me in different ways, I became exposed to tutoring and community clean ups. It even inspired me to create an outreach through my ballet to a senior center.…

Scholarship, leadership, character, and service has shaped me to the person I am today. Today, I am involved in my community, top ten student, and a leader in my school. Although, this would have occurred without the four pillars of National Honor Society. As a child, I wanted to be a member of the National Honor Society but it was only a dream. Shortly after I had imagined myself as a member, my parents had passed away in a car accident.…

The National Honor Society is based on four pillars, which are, Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. In some ways, I have already shown three of these pillars in my first two years of high school. However, there are several other ways in which I plan to lead my school, serve my community, and build my character, during my final years of high school. As I have mentioned, there are some ways that I have already shown leadership, service, and built my character during my first two years at Parkway South.…

Fall of 2013 I started the Early College Alliance, otherwise known as ECA. For those who do not know, when you first start ECA you take High School level classes, with other High Schoolers during your first semester. After teachers review your progress you’ll either be placed in College classes, because you’re what they call, “College Ready,” or you’ll take another semester of High School classes. During my second year of ECA, I was placed in EMU College classes. During this time I was exposed to an environment in which I was interacting with adults in a classroom setting, versus being in school with students in my age group.…

Leaders, strong, courageous, self-defining, outspoken, headstrong, dedicated, loving, humble, and proud, the words that I use to describe my three Delta cousins. However, it is possible to sum these characteristics into one simple, descriptive phrase; distinguished women. My interest in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is built on the basis of these three women. I don’t get to see or talk to them as much as I’d like, when I do, whether on social media or in person, I am always smitten by their distinguished attributes. These women have watched me grow to the woman that I am today, but I too have watched these women.…

The world is too vast to be concerned only with what goes on in your immediate circle. There is too much to learn about different ways of life, too much to experience, too much to understand. I am unconventional in my interests, aspirations, and studies; I am invigorated by nearly every academic subject, by world cultures, by sports, by religions, by the arts. I have used the first seventeen years of my life in an attempt to satiate my world curiosity, from its fundamental laws to the rudimentary values prevalent in even the most untouched cultures. Socially, I have friends in all the conventional high school cliques, whether it be the jocks, the nerds, the popular kids, the “bad-boys”, the performers, you name it, I have friends within it.…

A few months ago in September I had just started hanging out with a new friend group, but one day I was informed that my friends were going to be at a meeting during lunch. Being the awkward, antisocial freshmen that I am, I decided to go to the meeting with them so I wouldn’t eat lunch alone. The meeting was for a group called Angels of Eldo that helped feed the homeless and the poor for community service hours. I didn't think I would ever actually go and help feed the homeless because I was already involved in another organization for community service; however, in an effort to convince my mom to let me hang out with a friend, I told her I would go feed to homeless for 4 hours. My mom finally let in and agreed, so the following Saturday…
