Personal Narrative: The Horse Trailer

Decent Essays
In the summer of 2013, I and my cousin, Jared, got a call from my dad telling us to get ready because he is coming to pick us up to go get a new horse he just bought. We did not think anything of it since it was not the first horse we had encountered this summer. When my dad pulled up in the old one-ton red Ford pickup pulling a 16foot red and black horse trailer, Jared and I jumped in the pickup. After about an hour of driving, we arrived at the man’s house that owned the horse. Once we introduced ourselves we followed the man through the muddy trail to his horse pens. To our surprise there stood in the horse pen a nineteen hands tall Percheron stud horse. The giant horse was a dapple gray Percheron stud. He stood there staring at us with …show more content…
Once we got our trailer backed up to his pen we began moving our panels. Next we made a chute for the horse to run in before we put him in the trailer. After that we had no trouble loading him in the …show more content…
Then we let the giant Percheron horse out of the trailer and put him in our squeeze chute. Next we put a blanket and strapped a saddle on him. I hopped up on him. After I got my feet in the stirrups, Jared opened up the side panel of the chute. The Percheron shot out and instantly started bucking. After about five hard bucks the cinch strap on the saddle snapped, and I went flying off the horse with the saddle still in under me.

While in the air I was confused since I was flying off the horse but still on the saddle. While in the air it seemed forever before I hit the ground. Once I hit the ground, I could fell the adrenalin running through me with my heart racing. Jared came running to me to see if I was alright.

Luckily I wasn’t hurt and stood right back up eager to get back on again. That was the first and only time I had ever had a chinch strap break on me. Then we rounded up the horse and started again. Once we got the Percheron back in the chute all we had left to do was fix the saddle. After a little search for a chinch strap we found one on an old saddle. When we repaired the saddle, we strapped it back on the horse and started again. After about three hours of ride the big horse he started to listen to me and do as he was

Training a rope horse is not a simple process. The first thing to remember when beginning the training process is that the horse must be broke and able to collect itself and break at the poll (“Rope”). Breaking at the poll means that when the rider applies pressure to the horse 's bit, the horse drops its head allowing the three vertebrates in the neck to arch. If the rider applies pressure to the bit and the horse fights back, the horse is not breaking at the poll. When training a rope horse, and any horse for that matter, a vital component is spending time with the horse and learning the horse’s every move.…

The first thing you do is get the horse out of the stall you put the halter over its head and cross tie it to the barn, the halter is essential this is so that when you are getting the horse ready it doesn’t run off it can also save your life in some cases for example if you have a scared horse and it goes crazy the horse will not hurt you or anybody around you this can also help with the keeping the horse in control. The next thing you do is brush the horse off, you will get a curry comb and brush both sides and the back of the horse off the reason you do this is so when you put the saddle on it doesn’t slide of sometimes if you go on a long ride you will have to tighten the saddle up this is also a very important thing to do if your saddle…

When saddling a horse the horn will go towards the horse’s neck and the seat towards the horse’s rear end. Just like humans, horses don’t want to have stuff thrown at them so make sure to lightly place the saddle directly onto the pad. Then, take the cinch and pull it under the horse’s stomach and pull it tight enough with the latigo to keep the saddle in place but not too tight that it will be uncomfortable for the horse. When tightening or adjusting any equipment it is always done on the left side of a horse. After the cinch has been pulled you will then reach under the horse and hook the back cinch.…
