Personal Narrative: The Homeless Woman

Improved Essays
At the beginning of this year, I decided to dedicate my life to Christ. After coming back home from a winter retreat, I concluded that I need to talk to pastor to get baptized, and I did on April 23, 2017. Shortly thereafter, I went on a mission trip to Washington, D.C., where I really got to see God’s works at hand. My mission group and I work woke up one morning to a beautiful sunrise, and magnificent weather. Despite the fact we had to get up at five in the morning, I was eager to see what the day entailed. Our group that morning went to Charlie’s Place, where we were supposed to get clothes for the homeless in a back room and talk to them. At first, I thought it was going to be easy, but then say how God was challenging my group and I. …show more content…
Michelle, the woman I was talking to, had told me her life journey and how even though she had became homeless only a few days ago, she still felt blessed. When she told me she still felt blessed, I got help but feel discombobulated on the inside. Michelle then went on to say how her sister had cancer, and that it had recently …show more content…
Here in front of me was this homeless woman who felt blessed for the fact she had nothing, but that she had average health. Prior to Michelle leaving, I asked if I could pray for her and her sister. When she smiled and allowed me to, I froze. Typically, I wasn’t comfortable praying out loud, let alone in front of somebody else. However, when I started praying, the Lord took over me and gave me wisdom in my words through the Holy Spirit, and I had never felt closer to God in that moment. God works in amazing ways, and He showed me through Michelle that I should be blessed for everything I have, and to never take anything for granted. Since that mission, I have surrounded myself with Christian friends who encourage in my walk with the Lord, which is why the Taylor community appeals to me. Taylor’s community and atmosphere is extremely friendly, and the people there could help to also strengthen my relationship with the Lord, and I could reassure others relationships with Him as well. Overall, the Taylor community appeals to me because it’s a discipleship community where people can boost one another in our walks with the Lord and make lifelong friends, while getting a magnificent

In today’s society, people are swept up in the wrath of being too prideful, or become greedy. These deadly sins deaden our religious life, causing us to distance ourselves from God’s path. Everyone must dig deep into their spiritual lives, and lend a helping hand to those who need it the most. Whether it’s simply having a conversation with a homeless person, donating money, or volunteering at a daycare for the destitute children, these charitable acts can make a huge difference in someone’s life. My service learning experience was an eye opener for me, and it made me realize how privileged and blessed I truly am.…

On Sunday June 4th, I went to a local community park called Riverview Memorial Park located in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. The Riverview Memorial Park is a stage that performers can use which the pastor did which provided benches on the ground facing the stage. There is also a big pavilion with benches as well for people to sit. At this park, my boyfriend’s pastor was having a gathering with music and some readings from poems and verses from the Bible. The purpose of this gathering was to have people from around the community come together for an hour and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere that surrounds us and try to start your new week on a good note with having God by your side.…

I believe in support systems. No matter how difficult your past has been, how terrible your present is, or how bleak your future looks, a good support system can help you through anything. August 18, 2012, my uncle passed when he was only twenty-six years old. There are several instances where I received help and comfort that stick out in my mind. Every one of those situations involve another person offering comfort and love.…

The good reputation you have in the word of God and the burning vision you have to reach others through the living gospel of Jesus Christ prompted or desire me to study for the office of public ministry in Lutheran Church-Canada. I want to link my early childhood relationship with Lutheran Church even though I was not Christian at that period. I have learned academic school in Lutheran school even though I was not Christian at that moment. Joyce Tillman, my mom, usually starts her mornings off by going to her knees and engaging in an elongated prayer. It’s something she does before anything else in the morning, to her it’s the start to her day, almost like a car needing the key to start the engine, the car can’t mover or function without the key, as my mom can’t function without her daily morning prayer. She believes that praying and putting things to come in the lords hands helps her to deal with what’s to come in her day at work, furthermore, dealing with extensive phone calls, sometimes agitating customers or employees’ attitudes, to her is helped or guided by the lord through prayer, or what she calls spiritual enrichment. I have been able to observe intensively her routine as she gets ready to head to work. She’s up and moving around 5:00am, with her prayer time being 4:30am.…

I constantly felt the need to go and sit with a student sitting by themselves and talk to them about the friend they have in Jesus or go up to the girl whose boundaries are being continually pushed down and love her as Christ does. If anything, this event was, for me, a reinforcement of calling. My heart was utterly broken and for many days following it was most of what I talked about with friends and family back home. Unknowingly these students gave me a great gift by breaking my heart, they showed me as nothing else could the importance of youth ministry. They gave me a glimpse of their world and their struggles, hurts, and wrongs and, though perhaps not identified by them, their behavior pleaded for the mercy and love of our Almighty Father.…

Anyway, I gathered some details about the family, and then gathered as much as I could bring over to them from my house. I couldn 't get there until almost 9pm, because I was helping at the DCS facility that was short on volunteers to help care for the many kids in their care that night, so I was a little concerned about showing up to a strangers house in Phoenix after dark. I said a quick prayer in my car, and knew that God was with me. I met the family, and learned many things about them, but the only thing that I needed to know was that they were in need of help, and I could help them. Not just with material items, but the mother was in desperate need of knowing that God wasn 't punishing her and causing her that horrible…
