Personal Narrative: The Hall County Football Competition

It was summer and it was time for football in East Hall. That means we practiced 3 days a week, 100 push ups a night, 2 hour practices, helmets never came off and we were only 9 year olds. We were almost undefeated the previous year and we want be undefeated that year. So we had to be disciplined, work hard and do what coaches told us to do. We were determined to win the Hall County Football Championship, since Flowery Branch won it the previous year we wanted to beat them so bad. Practices were grueling, hot, tiring, but we got better.

Our team that year had at least 35 players. Thats a lot compared to all the other teams who barely had 20. Since I played all game long it was harder for me. At practice we would start with our warm ups. Running from one end of the field to the other end. After that we would stretch and break up into groups for practicing our individual position. So we can specialize on certain things. Then we came together so we can work on things like speed, agility, and other fundamental things like tackling and blocking.We were very disciplined, so if we talked, we ran.

We did a lot of running during the fall so that we could stay in shape for games. During the fall we did a whole lot more tackling . We tackled so much that I almost broke my arm doing it. Kids would even pretend to throw just so they could get out of tackling drills. Then we would do individual work for specialization. After that we came together for more tackling drills. Then we put together all the plays that we learned, add new ones, split the team up, and play against each other. We did this until we couldn’t see
