On the above date and time I responded to 5142 Bay Boulevard, reference an unresponsive subject. Dispatch advised me while en-route that there was a male caller who advised that his wife was unresponsive inside of the residence. I was the first to arrive on scene at the residence. My childhood in New York City was very difficult for me. I grow up in a predominantly Hispanic Dominican decent neighborhood in the upper Manhattan area called Washington Heights. Washington Heights in the early 1990’s was the heart of the drug trade. At one point in the 1990’s it was considered one of the worst neighborhoods to raise a child. I remember in the news, the news anchor reported that New York City was recognized as the crime capital in the 1950's through the early 1990's.…

New York otherwise known as the “Big Apple” is home to approximately 19.7 million people. In a closer lense, New York City is home to 8.4 million people. Everytime I go to New York I always spot the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. For seven summers I went to Camp Matoaka in Maine, each year I would return to the same smiling faces. These familiar faces were always close to my heart, however they were not always in reach.…

Endured: One Week at the Mall of America” provides Guterson’s analysis and observations of the Mall of America as well as his views on modern megamalls in contrast with old marketplaces. Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

As the subway doors open, I am embraced with the aroma of sweat and grime. I walk out of the train car onto the dirt caked floor of Penn Station. My train whooshes by behind me like a comet. Above me comes a computer-generated voice letting me know where I am. The station is a sea of people.…

Imagine having to watch the person who made you who you are today become sick. This is what I had to go through at a young age. My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis or MS. Multiple Sclerosis is when your immune system attacks the central nervous system. At thirteen I had to try to understand what was happening to her body, cope with something I had no control over, and attempt to deal with the uncertainty of my mothers’ future.…

If I had the opportunity to go shopping with an unlimited amount of money to spend, I would want to go to Minnesota. In Minnesota they have the Mall of America, but they also have other malls that I could shop at. I would want to travel with my mom and my sister in law, Kelsey. Even though I would have unlimited money, that is not what this trip should be all about. I should focus on the good times that I have with my family.…

On May 2, 2016, I bought a pair of shoes at your store, without trying them on. When I tried them on at home, they were too small for me, and I took them back to the store the following day. At the Customer Service Desk, they told me that I brought a different style of shoes. They told me that the box and the shoes didn’t match and refused to exchange them or give me a refund.…

The first thing that came to mind was how was I going to get to the event. Luckily, some of my classmates wanted to go on public transportation so I went with them. We first argued for a while debating about where to meet at and what time. Then we decided to meet at the North Hollywood Station to take the red line all the way to Civic Center. However, the experience on the train was hilarious.…

Being in New York City itself was all too surreal, like a dream come true. Buildings raced each other in a quest to touch the soft blue sky and people littered the streets and sidewalks. Life there was upbeat and fast-paced and everyone and everything was moving, but then you crossed into Central Park. Crossing the sidewalk into the large park was like crossing the border into another world.…

The traffic and chilly wind doesn’t look to discourage people from coming out to City Creek Mall. I took a seat near the fountain where everyone seems enthrall to. The millennial music playing in the background, combined with traffic honks booming in consumer’s ears. The wind caressing the trees, whispering melodies in our ears, and the leaves bid farewell to its mother. The sun parted way with the sky early today, leaving only gloomy clouds greeting the city.…

The chemical differences between the substances water and oil are immiscible- meaning that they will not mix together. This also describes the relationship that I have with writing. Throughout my previous thirteen years of schooling I have encountered multiple teachers that have focused solely on the format in which is paper is written rather than the content that is found in a paper. The only time any of my teachers ever focused on content and grammar of our papers was not until they graded them and at that point I was already being marked down at least twice per sentence due to my lack of grammatical knowledge.…

Whenever I enter a shopping mall or an airport I am hit with a wave of anxiety and distress. Although I was very young when the event itself happened, each day I still deal with the repercussions of my parents splitting up. Without any memories of my parents while they were still together, having a broken family has been a normality to me. However, I do remember nearly every single one of the parent swaps, which usually took place in a shopping mall halfway between where my mom and dad lived. The in-between city for many years was Bakersfield, California, so the Valley Plaza Mall was usually the place where the trade-off would take place.…
