Bottom nine, two outs, bases loaded. The opposing team's batter steps into the batter’s box. There are a million things running through my head in the field. With all eyes locked on me, the ball took flight. It was just the ball and me. Everything my coaches taught me led me to this moment. Determination, intelligence, and believing all came into play. My mind was telling me nothing else mattered, while my heart was reminding me that everyone was relying on me. With baseball every moment feels that way. I have felt so many emotions while playing this game. The good and the bad. With my mind racing from one situation to the next, it takes a lot out of me but then I remind myself that the determination I have used, the intelligence I have gained, …show more content…
That is the main thing I have learned from playing the game of baseball. I have heard it from my parents, my coaches, and my teammates. Everything you do with the baseball comes behind believing in yourself. If I didn't believe in myself at a young age, I wouldn't be where I am today playing baseball. Baseball is a game of failure. I have failed more times then I have succeeded playing the game. There is one moment in my baseball career that I will never forget. I was not hitting very well. My average was going down and it got in my head and I was not believing in myself. My coach noticed I was not myself and came over and had a talk with me. He told “You need to live in the present. Don’t worry about the past. Go up to bat each time with a new mind, an open mind, and a confident mind.” I have learned that I can not get down on myself at any moment in the game because failure happens. I have done my best to put everything behind me. If at one second I doubted myself, than I have already lost. I have had the confidence to get a hit every time I stepped in the batter's box or the confidence to make a play out in the field for my team. There has been multiple times I have failed and not done as good as I hoped but I never gave up and I always kept on trying because my parents and coaches were counting on me to put that behind me. I know believing in myself will go long after baseball. I know there will be multiple times in my …show more content…

I remember the first time I failed at something it changed my state of mind from high to low, filled me with anxiety and turned my world into chaos. What had such a powerful impact on my life is loved all over the United States, it is known as “America’s pass time,” the great sport of baseball. I originally decided to join baseball to make my family proud, no one else in my family played sports anymore due to harsh injuries. I was very much like the others at first in my ability to play baseball as the people on the team were barely coming out of 8th grade with plenty of room for growth mentally and physically. In a replay, I would have first have rid myself of thoughts on how perfect I should be when playing the game. Instead, I would have to realize what my current skills were at the time, and then would have to seek improvement of those skills daily incrementally. The growth mindset of having incremental growth to reach goals instead of believing the talent is already there would have ultimately changed my outcome of whether I made the baseball team freshman…

Although, I am a player that wants to be successful more than anything else in the world I am willing to go through anything and everything you can think of if it will make me a better athlete. When I read Coach Wooden’s book I realized you need poise and confidence in order to reach all the success you want and that really changed me, because I have that motivation and that drive to be successful in every way that I can. Also, poise and confidence weren’t just on the pyramid of success they were at the very top on the second row on this pyramid, so that just goes to show that confidence and poise are two things I really should work on as a person and as an athlete if I want to reach all the potential I know I can. Since I am motivated to be the best I can be, since I have that competitive fire to have all the potential in the world I read this book…
