Personal Narrative: The Game Against Calvary Christian School

It was beginning to get dark on a Thursday night in the middle of November of my freshman year in high school. As we were beginning to conclude practice, Coach King called us into a huddle to discuss with us the game plan for our next game against Calvary Christian School. As coach was addressing all of the tasks that needed to be done before the game the next day, I was overwhelmed with a certain nervousness that sent chill through my body. Earlier in the week, our starting quarterback was injured and I was given the starting job. At the time that I was first told that I would be the starting quarterback for the coming week’s semifinal game, I did not experience any nervous feeling. However, now that the day of the big game was less than twenty-four hours away, I suddenly felt anxious and nervous. Although I had trained and practiced all my life for an opportunity to start a varsity high school football game, I could not avoid the …show more content…
“Our starting lineup will consist of all of our original starts with the exception of Donovan starting at quarterback.” Coach King responded
Once again, I began to become anxious about the approaching game and my mind began to think about everything that could go wrong. We went back to the locker room to get dressed and headed out for warm-ups. During warm-ups, I began to find a rhythm in my throws and found enough confidence in myself to make me feel like I could lead my team through this game. Coach King called me to the side after we finished warming up and asked how I was feeling. “I am still a bit nervous but I think I will be fine once the game is about to start.” I said.
“You will do fine. Just trust yourself and your abilities and you will make it happen. I believe in you and the team believes in you. You just must find it inside of you to believe in yourself and do not hesitate to make decisions out there tonight.” he
