Personal Narrative: The Four Year Span

Losing someone you watched suffer in their last days on earth doesn’t feel anything like losing a friend that was your age who had their whole life ahead of them, and losing both in less than a 2 month span doesn’t help either.

The year of 2013 wasn’t the best year for me nor any of my classmates. For me it actually started when I was in the seventh grade, my mom received the rights to take care of my ill grandfather (her father). Turns out he was suffering from early age dementia; caused from drinking at an early age which happened to be 12. Although there was no one else to blame it was actually a sad site to see, going from functioning pretty well four or five days out of the week. Through that four year span I can honestly say I helped my mother as much as I could until the day he left us on a Friday at six in the morning. It really didn’t hit me that it’ll be a long time before I ever see him again until the day of the funeral that Monday.

Then again after hearing what I heard on the news on the evening of May 14th a few weeks later I actually reconsidered what I thought about. The exact words from Miya Shay the reporter that evening on channel 13 news were “Good evening we have breaking news, a 15 year old teenager from Cypress Lakes High School was rushed to Texas Children’s hospital by a group of friends after a loaded gun went off in the backseat of the car they were riding in, we have word that he didn’t make it he was pronounced dead on arrival.” I was 15 years old; and I have no idea why I decided to watch the news that evening but for whatever reason I turned
