Personal Narrative-The Flood Tour

After an intermission that was probably only ten minutes but felt like an eternity, the lights at the Fillmore Theater in Miami Beach dimmed and the crowd erupted into deafening cheers and whistles as “The Flood Tour” started. The anticipation for the moment everyone in the audience had been waiting for since they bought their ticket is nearly palpable. Finally, the drummer starts, setting the rhythm, followed by the guitarist and bassist until lastly the vocalist starts singing and the fans belt out the lyrics as well. At a live show it is nearly impossible to deny the tangible power music has that goes beyond simple lyrics or chords on a guitar. Hordes of the fans arrived hours before the doors of the theater even opened for the show in order to get a decent spot in the orchestra pit, and around 20 of us stayed behind hours after the show ended in hopes that the bands would come out to take pictures and sign autographs, which some members eventually did. This dedication mainly stems from the fact that people can resonate and connect with the music the artist produces. “[Music] is what lifts you up from the ashes of a dreary day. It allows you to translate mixed emotions and thoughts, helping you find something in common with others,” said my friend Vanessa, who was in tears after hugging Rutherford that night. Another girl who’s friend had recently passed spoke to the singer about his influence on their lives and how The Neighbourhood’s music was helping her get through that time in her life. For fans like this, music is meaningful to say the least, but if they are willing to listen hard enough, anyone can experience the impact of music. Songs can have an affect your mood, negatively or positively, be inspirational, evoke certain memories and provoke thoughts. It may serve as an escape for some fans, and a way to confront issues for others. Due to this, the fans seemed to feel a sense of connection to the band and it showed in the excitement over meeting them. The Grateful Dead Movie By Launy schweiger The opening is a cartoon with psychedelic music and out of this world spaced themed pinball game, much like the Monty python opening in “The Meaning of Life” hinting a baseline of their music style. That at the every end turns into the real opening credits of the movie filled with a variety of American popular culture icons and symbols, and some cases parodies them, such as Uncle Sam's head turns into skeletal version of himself who starts to sing the opening song, or the Great Seal of the United States on fire, further hinting at the mixture of styles the band uses in their music. To Fully grasp the band and their style we first must understand them, and their relationship with one another and the fans.…

I was conceived at the bottom of Grand Canyon. At four months old I was on my first river trip. The Colorado River banks were my first playground, and as someone who wants to preserve the wild landscape that I call home, I am looking to the future to figure out what I can do to ensure its protection as environmental changes continue to occur. The rivers of the west are my sanctuary, whether it be the Green, the San Juan, or the mighty Colorado, every river trip I have ever been on has been one of the happiest times of my life. Experiencing the outdoors at a young age that has shaped me to become the person I am today.…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…

Thankfully, that wasn 't the case when a kind woman stopped and asked if I needed a ride, who turned out to be a fan. She picked me up, knowing where I needed to go as she already had tickets, planning to attend the next show.…

Ever since I was a young boy, music has been a very prominent part of my life. My parents believed being involved in musical performances and fine arts events were just as important as sports or anything of that sort. I can’t thank them enough for inputting this view into my life as it has given me a true appreciation for music, theatre, and any other live presentation of the arts. For some, attending a live performance could be a drag, but to me it is quite the opposite. Tuesday at the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall was no exception as I attended the recital for Iowa State’s Wind Ensemble Spring Concert.…

Even though I myself wasn’t affected as much by the Historic Flood I still endured a lot of emotional disbelief for my family and friends. I felt heart broken by what was actually happening to my family and friends, all I could think about at the time was lending out any help I could to make things a little better.
