At the end of the first practice, our head coach told us “Now the big test is to see how you all come out to the second practice and perform. We need the same intensity as the first practice”. When we broke out of our team meeting, I thought I was a super-star with all of the interviews I did. Holy Cross was the only school with eleven committed players to play college football at the time so the news was constantly out at practice.…

My first at bat, I got a high fastball and hit it back up the middle. It felt like hitting a pillow, I didn’t feel it on my bat. Then all started playing like we could win this game. In the fourth inning we took the lead 7-5. In the sixth, they were up to hit and we need to stop them in order to win.…

I'll always remember that one very special baseball game that I had played in a while ago. I think I was either 11 or 12 years old when I played in that very special baseball game. On that day I was on my way to Walkertown because that's where my baseball game took place. There were different teams in my division but I played for the Walkertown Cardinals. I played multiple positions like 2nd base, 3rd base, shortstop, and pitcher but my main position was…

Swinging the bat and making contact with the ball, I knew I hit the ball solid. Jumping off the bat, the ball climbing through the air towering over the outfielders. The outfielders knew they did not have a chance of catching the ball. As they are watching the softball leave the park, I ran around the freshly painted white bases. Jumping on home plate, the whole team shouted, “YEET!”…

We were all glad to have placed well, but were overall disappointed in losing first place by one measly point. Setting the mood for remembering our countless failures and long practices, the seniors went around the group, giving each member of the team their own little speech. When they got to me, every single senior noted how much I had changed over the season. Listening to them recount the season to me, it truly hit me how different I was compared to the beginning of the season. Senior speeches had opened a book of memories for me.…

I was not surprised—I knew the basic principles of exercise—but my knowledge had not prevented me from feeling like I was barely improving during those practices. The season finally began that fall, and I was disappointed to hear that I had not been chosen as a starter for the team. All hope was not lost, however, because the coach told the backup players that if we improved, we could be made starters. The season went on and I kept improving and finally, we made it to the state championships. After substituting in the end of the semi-finals, my coach pulled me aside and told me that I would be starting as middle linebacker for the final championship game.…

After months of weight lifting and minicamp practices, it was finally time for the team camp at Upper Iowa University.
