In a world I didn’t know existed, I was born. I opened my eyes to unfamiliar but friendly faces. Outside, the cold, bitter winds were swishing through trees, and making their way across the crowded streets of India. 4:29 p.m., that unforgettable evening was when my whole story began… And that special day was November 9, 2003.
From that day on, everyone called me Anika. That is my name just in case you are wondering. My whole name is Anika Chhabra to be specific. Anika is another name of a Goddess in my religion or culture. The day I was born, my face was swollen. By swollen I mean I looked like a bright red tomato. But I do remember some facts from my memory, and my parents’ experience. At the beginning of school, I was very aggressive. Yes, I think that would be the word for me at that moment. At the end of a tiring school day, I went home to learn that we were going to Canada. I was feeling very excited, like any child would be before opening their birthday present. But I was also sad because I would be leaving my relatives, friends, and family behind. On May 22nd, 2011, we reached Ontario, Canada. Then, we lived in Brampton, Ontario. I started going to Hickory Wood Public School when we moved to Canada. I attended the grade 2 class, since it was the end of the school year. I realized that the school years are different in Canada and India. After a while, I got used to the terms and ways of Hickory Wood. Later into the year, on August 24, 2011, somebody very special and important to me, entered in mine and my parents’ life. That special someone is my little brother Kannan, who is now 4 years old, and just started going to kindergarten at Springdale Public School. Also, at Hickory Wood, I made a lot of friends, and among them, was my best friend Harman. Harman and Dimple are both my best friends to this day. I am glad to say that I had very nice teachers, and I had a lot of fun at Hickory Wood Public
