Personal Narrative: The First Broadway Musical

Decent Essays
The first Broadway musical I enjoyed was Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I was about thirteen years old. It was more elaborate than the small performances at Disney World. There was more music, elaborate set designs, and more seats in theater. I was very impressed by the singing and actors ability to flow through the material. The music was so good that I purchased the soundtrack. I still have it and listen to it every once in a while.

As I became a teenager, my world opened up beside Disney. Because of The Little Mermaid: The Musical, it opened my world to the world of theater. At first, it was commercial theater, like Disney musicals and the likes. But as I matured, I fell in love with musicals from Andrew…

When professor mentioned that we would watch and discuss about a Broadway Musical show named ‘Memphis’, the first that came to my mind was, the actual city Memphis in the southern state of Tennessee. I was still confused as to how a city and its activities could be incorporated into a Musical show, which is assumed to be entertaining with melodramatic components, dance and music. I had an assumption that it would be academic, political, boring since it is to be watched in a classroom setting and that a professor would not choose something entertaining or something of the liking of the younger generation. I deduced that this play might touch the topic of race since race defined how a person is treated in most southern states. I assumed that…

Growing up, I was always a hard worker. At age nine I sold enough newspaper subscriptions to win a bicycle in my hometown of Allegheny, Pennsylvania. It was also at that age, that I was fortunate enough for my family to travel to New York for my career. At age thirteen, I was a chorus girl and later on when I was fifteen, I performed at Pan- American exposition in the “Trip to the Moon” exhibit. At age sixteen, I had an opportunity to perform in Mr. Bluebird along with my mother at the Iroquois theater.…

What started off as a mere history assignment, became an attestation to the well-known phrase ‘anything is possible through strong belief’. My voice echoed throughout the streets of Manhattan, as my close friend and I sight-saw in the heart of the city. Wrapped with such vivid lights on each corner, we truly cherished our time scarfing down tall burgers and crispy fries at our favorite dining restaurant. While new memories were being made, we came across a site greatly familiar to us. Located between Broadway and 8th Avenue, uprightly standing was the Richard Rodgers Theater.…

2015 was a time filled with adventure and grandeur. I can still vividly remember the frigid, icy night of twenty degrees Fahrenheit when my family and I saw The Cold Hard Cash Show in concert. This was where I was introduced to Johnny Cash’s music by Merle Travis Peterson. I received nearly an overdose of unique and remarkable music that influenced many other genres. Even with Johnny Cash’s death, his music has continued to inspire and ignite generations.…

Thursday, November 19th. It is about 8:15 PM. The Fairmount Theatre is slowly filling itself. The smoke machines give a hazy atmosphere to the auditorium. I take a first sip of my 7$ citrus-perfumed French pale ale, when Mathieu taps my shoulder: "Hey, that's him, right there!"…

Over the past term and a bit, I feel in general that I have achieved what I was aiming for in concern with creating a halloween container/basket. Starting this assessment with a lot of drawing and sketching and jumbled ideas and designs, I thought that I would be a hard task filled with challenges and difficulties. However it turned out to be the complete opposite. Choosing my final design, which has now been modified and changed, I started the real work. Even though I started this design with little knowledge on clay, I was excited and enthusiastic to learn.…

It all started when I was a little tiny kid. I was at my grandma’s house when I was five, and the T.V. was turned on. There was a lady on the screen with a microphone in her hands, and she started singing. I automatically started to sing along, although at that time I could barely say words correctly. I was dancing and humming along.…

I was fortunate enough to have had my first theatre production at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. I was a member of the children's ensemble in A Christmas Carol from 2008 - 2012. Unfortunately, the Guthrie was one of the only theatre companies where I experienced conflict between the kids. However, even when I was 11, I felt it was my duty to settle disputes. Two of the young cast members had gotten into an argument, which was a hard situation for me because both of them were my friends.…

It may be hard for some people to remember every detail about a past memory, especially when it had occurred so long ago. There’s a lot of things that have happened in my life that I don’t remember, or can vaguely recall, but I remember every detail from that surgery. I was born with Arnold Chiari Malformation, a congenital defect in the back of the head where the brain and spinal cord connect. It affects one in a thousand people. The doctors diagnosed my condition when I was two, and I’ve had seven surgeries attempting to fix the problem.…

Years ago, when I was much younger, my Mother used to watch The Golden Girls and on occasion I would watch along. The show was always appealing, quite funny and I always like Betty White, and the combination of the four ladies together worked perfectly to produce a decent, entertaining show. However, they were Golden Girls after all, certainly suited for someone my Mother's age, but not for a person of my age ...…
