The game of golf is almost more mental than it is physical. Having the ability to control one’s thoughts and emotions can turn good players into great ones. Many players learn how to play the game physically, but cannot ever make a leap towards better golf due to their actions and thoughts on the course. When playing bad, all it may take is a change in mindset or attitude to get one back on track. Sometimes it’s a little change in swing thought that will turn one’s round around.…

Even though it seems that I’m trying to laugh off the situation, I’m using humor to cope with how much this situation affected me because soccer really meant a lot to me. Playing soccer is one of the ways where I can be myself and feel truly happy and free. When I play I always know that I have a team that I can rely on to support me and they know that they can rely on me as a striker to provide hope when we’re losing and confidence when we’re winning by scoring goals. Soccer for me was a constant so having it taken away in a few seconds when it took 15 years to build the stability and skill was like a bullet to the…

About seven years ago I set a goal to advocate for a co-op soccer team at my school. I had played since I was three years old and was dreaming of playing during high school. This came to the forefront of my vision when I entered high school, so I talked to the athletic director, school board, and parents to persuade them to support a soccer team. Through this, the school finally joined a co-op for not only the girls, but a co-op for the boys as well. This came together my junior year of high school, which then opened up a new goal of mine.…

“Beep Beep Beep” It is 5 am and my hand can’t make it to the alarm clock before the voices in my head start telling me that it is too early and too dark to get up. But I did not ask for their opinion, I rise like a phoenix and before I know it, I am drenched in sweat and walking out an empty gym in route to the soccer field. Why you ask because I was told I was not good enough, too uncoordinated, and too tall to play soccer and I was on a mission to prove them wrong. There was a month left before the traveling soccer team that everyone told me I was not good enough to play for came back to town for their yearly tryouts.…

Many people are expected to wait patiently for their food and/or drink when it comes to restaurants or fast food. However, what happens when a person decides to not wait patiently for their food and/or drink and decide to rush the person in charge of making/giving him/her their food. On Tuesday, January 3rd I decided to break this norm at Sheetz located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. When I arrived at Sheetz, there were several people that were in line for made-to-order food and drinks. I decided to order a peanut butter hot chocolate, which does not take long to make, however, there was several people before me.…

The experience that I would use to display all of these personal qualities would be my first semester at Miami University. I chose this experience because it has taught me to become comfortable within the uncomfortable and create an environment where I am able to adapt quickly to my surroundings. My first semester at college has made me become more independent, willing to push outside of my comfort zones, open-minded, and able to persevere through isolation. After arriving to Wood Middle School as I would on any other day, I walked into the bustling commons area and noticed a herd of students scattered into their separate cliques. However, what immediately caught my eye was the number of teachers and administrators who clearly looked flustered and distressed. I soon left the commons area and headed towards the library to figure what exactly was going on. Sure enough, there was a cluster of teachers gazing at the library’s television in utter disbelief over what would soon become known as “The Stock Market Crash of 2008”. Even though I was only in the 6th grade, I still had enough competence to realize that this was not an ordinary day in the stock market.…
