Scared and confused were the only two emotions I felt on the way to the emergency room. I had never been to the emergency room before and always envisioned a frightening and somber place. I was awestruck as I got up, but continued on until I reached the dance. That is when my hands started turning numb. I look down both my hands were swollen and looked like two big blue balloons. As I sat in the emergency room of Centre-State hospital waiting for my name to be called I felt anxious and nervous that both my hands were broken; …show more content…
Dr. Goldberger my orthopedist, came over to the emergency room, gave me an me a cast and told me the dreaded words__ you are going to be out of cheer for eight weeks. After nine years of steady competition, I could not fathom those words. Competition season was around the corner. My team needed me. I felt like a failure. After eight long weeks I was able to participate again. However, the joy of competition would not last long. Two weeks back from injury, Tuesday, November 22 was just a typical day at practice. I get into my opening spot; I run a do a punch front; and I hear a crack in my leg. I got up and try walking but I cannot I cannot walk; my knee keeps giving out. Was this is a cue that I should just stop cheering? I went back to Dr. Goldberger; he was not too happy to see me. He told me that I tore my meniscus. It was around 4 pm on December 8th my team went to warm ups to compete. I have not stunted in over two weeks so my limbs were still a little numb. My stunt group hit on the first shot; I forcefully ran and threw my full on the tumbling mat. My confidence increased as I slowly made my way through warm-ups

When Eric came to get me to warm up, I got up and did an awkward limp to the door. He asked if I should still be running, and I assured him that I would be fine. At this point, no amount of pain medication would work, and I stepped up to the start line fully expecting to finish in last place, have Quisno find out about my injury, and freak out at me. I ended up running almost 30 seconds slower than my best time, but I still managed to finish in 5th place to help out the team.…

In my life I have had many challenges, privileged challenges but challenges nonetheless. What I mean by “privileged challenges” is that I’ve lead a very fortunate life with a family that loves me and has a steady income. Many people I meet I find that they are not as fortunate and it makes me feel as though I should be counting my blessings rather than complaining about the fact I didn’t get into my first choice or that I failed a test or that I’m stressed about the little things. Aside from that, the reason I am at Miami University is simple. Soccer.…
