After we walked through the floppy doors (I have no better name for them) the noise subsided somewhat but it was still there none the less. The lights had been turned off because the store was closed requiring our vision to adjust to the gloom.

However the sixth aisle was divided in half by a variety of items ranging from a candy box to a stack of toilet paper. After we were finished examining the contents of the sixth aisle we moved on to the

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

As a child, I remember my grandma reading me The Little Engine that Could every time I visited her house. Which may seem slightly odd that, that’s what I enjoyed as a kid. I observed him carefully as he walked to the door. I knew that time was running out but suppressed the urge to check my watch. I took a deep breath and started counting in reverse under my breath. “Ten, nine, eight, seven…” I didn’t even finish counting when he turned the handle. I watched as the whole building exploded into smithereens, an explosion that resonated even 5 miles away.…

As a kid, I had no responsibilities other than school, and sometimes sports. I was fortunate enough to not have to do chores, or have a job at an early age. I essentially, could manage my time how I pleased; playing Xbox, baseball, being on my phone whenever, as long as I kept my grades up and wasn't in trouble. My parents gave me this privilege, because they knew what a well-behaved kid I was, and somehow trusted that my Dad’s work ethic would eventually just naturally rub off on me when the time was right. Although my experience sounds great, I felt empty, because I wasn't doing anything productive.…

One of my mother’s greatest prides in life was her family. You could tell she was delighted in her close knit family by how she greeted everyone who wandered through the door. Throughout the day, countless family members would make their way in and out of my house, or what it was commonly called, Oak Street Deli. My cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents would stop by to get a second opinion of a major, or minor, life event from my mother then grab a bite to eat. When one would open the front door of our bungalow, they would be greeted with the smell of that night's dinner, my mother’s laugh bouncing off the walls, and a sense of belonging.…

As I lay on the hard bed, my head resting on the soft hospital pillow I began to think about the events that led up to that moment. My mother and I were driving back from Aunt Mildredś end of the summer barbeque. All of the windows were rolled down, and the speakers boomed so loudly you could feel the vibrations down by your feet. ¨Danielle, for goodness sakes, will you please put on your seatbelt,¨ my mother stated practically. The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store. At the time I was under the illusion that my dad would be even slightly happy to see me, but no.…
